A teacher leaves an imprint in the learning journey of a child. Days b e c o m e m o n t h s, months become years and children become adults. The teacher is always the teacher. At CHR, teaching and non-teaching staff are honoured as partners in helping to mould the students. There is always something to OCA, MOE Long Service and Promotion A w a r d s w e r e presented to several staff members. Staff ended the celebration with a sumptuous buffet lunch at NUSS Guild House Suntec City. CHR Staff would like to thank the PSG Committee, student councillors, students and everyone who pitched in for Staff Honours Day 2015 in CHR. Acknowledgements and Updates 8 teach and something to learn. We kicked off the celebrations with performances by the PSG, students and teachers. Every year, the PSG s item is welcomed with roaring rounds of applause.

2 Volume 3 Issue 3 REFLECTIONS OF PSG COMMITTEE Mr Lau, I know the whole school is in your hands and it is such a heavy responsibility. Don t worry, We (Parents Support Group) will continue to support you. Bee Hwa In the 4 years as a PSG member, the most touching and memorable year is 2014 when my daughter gave me a self-made keychain as her appreciation of my involvement with the PSG. Husni It has been a good year for me to chair the CHR PSG and run the programme with the strong supportive help of these three gentlemen parents and others. It is good to see parents come together to connect with each other and students and staff Mdm Goh Bee Hwa, Chairwoman of PSG. This is my first year with PSG@CHR. I joined with the intention of of getting to know more about the school and to grow alongside my daughter through her teenage years. The more involved I am, the more I sense the unique vibes and special bond in this PSG family. Jessica Lim 3 years ago, the former PSG ic Mr Chin invited my wife and I to meet some parents from the PSG. We have been serving in CHR PSG ever since. This is our little way of saying thank you to the staff and teachers of CHR for grooming our son Isaac into a student leader. This is definitely a journey worth experiencing. Chris Pua A picture paints a thousand words! As a parent I would like to thank the school and its teachers for developing my son holistically and making him a better individual than when he first arrived in CHR. I have learnt that with a little love and effort, we can make a difference in out kids lives. Arun

3 Volume 3 Issue 3 Page 3 CHR s PSG s strength is the involvement of both fathers and mothers it is thus more balanced and objective in how we act as a bridge between the school and parents. All parents are welcome and no special talents are a pre-requisite. Yoko The 3 years in CHR PSG have been a great blessing to us in our walk with our kiddos. This is our way of giving back and thanking God for the wonderful blessings that have constantly rained upon the PSG family. Angeline Tham (Angie), wife of Chris Pua This is our first time being involved with a PSG and we are grateful to have been given the opportunity to share and build the bonds between parents and teachers. The PSG Programmes also brings us closer to our daughter and we are better able to understand what she needs. It was rewarding and touching to see how proud our daughter was on Honours Day, as she watched us participate in the celebrations. Thank you PSG for bringing us closer together as a family. 4 Page 4 We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. Sir Winston Churchill Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA) Rainbow 2015 Project CHR NPCC Unit v o l u n te er s f rom Secondary 3 had an o p p o r t u n i t y t o participate in the SINDA Rainbow 50 Project, held in conjunction with SG50. This experience enabled us to serve, making a difference in the lives of the families and also to give back to our community. The Rainbow 50 Project was started by SINDA to create a more conducive living environment for the families. Teenagers and youths from all walks of life came together to help clean the homes of those in need, especially those who are physically disabled as well as our elderly residents. Many of us have our parents or maid to clean up our rooms and home. However, there are families who struggle with these simple tasks because of injury, age and other reasons we may not be aware of. When we help one another to make a difference, it doesn t matter if it s small. This is what we have learnt from this great experience. The storage boxes we bought greatly helped the family members store their clothing conveniently. This also enabled them to find their clothes easily.

Mr Richard Tan, Patron of CHR Alumni, is the founding member of the Singapore Institute of Landscape Architects and was honoured at SILA s 10th Biennial Awards Night on 12th October Mr Richard Tan is also the first Asian to be appointed President of t h e I n t e r n a t i o n a l Federation of Landscape Architects in MR RICHARD TAN, 2nd from left. They will accompany the 5 trained optometrists (volunteers) and join Batam School s 10 volunteers to serve approximately 600 pax of Batam s community in November. The objectives of the trip is to fulfil Character and Citizenship Education through the outdoor classroom. This will also provide our students an authentic experience to develop 21st century competencies in Global Awareness & Cross-cultural skills.
