1 Tel: (309) Valley of Peoria Scottish Rite Jan / Feb 2019 Scottish Rite News Vol. XXXVII, No. 32 ear Y w e N y Happ A new year has begun and so begins a new Scottish Rite year as well. We are looking forward to the presentation of Degree work and fellowship with family and friends. Some upcoming events include a Fish Fry/ Superbowl Party on February the 3rd, the annual Corned Beef & Cabbage dinner, the Easter Egg Hunt and much more. There are two Degree dates already on the books; January 28th at the Stated meeting the 12th Degree will be shown on DVD and then on February 25th the 31st Degree will be performed at the February Stated meeting. Make sure to come and scan your membership card so that it will update your record at Supreme Council automatically. The ILMEA, Illinois Music Educators Association, annual conference, choir portion, will once again be held here at the Cathedral January 24-26th. If you can come and help it would be greatly appreciated. Last year s performances were simply phenomenal and the people simply loved the building and the acoustics for their performances. There will also be some cleaning days scheduled this year to clean and repair the Cathedral from top to bottom and look to see what we keep an what can be gotten rid of. The 1st of which will be the 2nd weekend in January, additional days will be posted on the website as soon as they are announced. Please visit the Valley s website at: www. valleyofpeoria.com for all of the happenings at the Cathedral. There are also pages on Facebook that are kept up to date as well. We hope that the New Year finds you safe and well. Have a blessed and happy new year.

3 2018 In Review 2018 began with the tough decision to put the building up for sale. This was a hard and long thought out decision. The Cathedral played host to the Illinois Music Educators Association annual Conference s choir portions 3 day event and they loved it so much that they are coming back again this year. The annual Fish Fry and Corned Beef and Cabbage dinners werenotas well attended as in the past but there are a few changes in the works. There were several Quncinera rentals this year, tapping into a previously untapped market. We also had 5 rentalsfrom a Mexican Music promoter that brought bands in from Chicago. Our newly elected officers were installed in May and includeda new Executive Secretary, Ed Derry, MSA, 33 and a new Treasurer, Dona Edwards, MSA, 33. The ananual meeting of the Illinois Council of Deliberation (ICOD), brought our newest MSA award winners, Fred Meyer & JB Witt. Those that were niminated for 2019 were L. Ray Gordon & Randy Saxon. A lot ofchange happened at the Supreme Council level as well, everything from a new lookto new officers. There was a huge push to update member information that continues stilll today. There was a Secretary/Treasurer conference in August that Ed Derry, MSA, 33 attended and brought back a lot of new information. The Valley of Peoria was also fortunate in that the newest Active member of the Supreme Council for Illinois is from our Valley, G. Nick Graff, MSA, 33. There was also an announcement from Supreme Council of the new 33 nominees for 2019, from the Valley of Peoria P. Mike Nuske, MSA will be receiving his 33rd. Announced the same evening was that Tim Vice, MSA from the Valley of Moline and a dual member of the Valley of Peoria will also be receiving his 33 in The Fall reunion was held jointly with the Valley of Moline and went very well and had an exceptional meal ofsteak and lobster. Several degrees were performed during the year and somehad not beendone in over10 years. The end of the year brings the anticipation of promoting the building at the Weddings of a Lifetime bridal show in January Superbowl party Sunday, February 3rd 2019 Food, Fun & Fellowship The game will be shown at the Cathedral Come and cheer on your favorite team! Watch the Facebook page and website for more information
