Nov 15, 2014 On Oct 11 th, we have an opportunity to teach soap carving at Alviso Adobe Park in Pleasanton. Many hands make light work. From The Pres By Bob Kehl Our 42nd wood carving show was again one of the most successful shows yet. Our mission for the TVC is to promote wood carving and I think we did a great job doing it. Many thanks to all club members, who worked so diligently to make our show such a success. The success of our show is the result of many club members and new members stepping up to make it so well done. These efforts are what make our club so great. Special thanks to Merv Cornelsen for taking on the responsibilities as Show Chairman. There were many items of the show that should be mentioned, so I will now highlight some of them: The Friday setup turned out to be a great success, as we were able to do all the entering details and judge almost all of the 69 entries for the show that evening. The participants also were able to set up their tables. Only a few carvings were entered in the first hours on Saturday and were judged long before noon. We ended up with 69 entries compared to 73 last year with the limit being 2 per participant. Since we are trending down in entry numbers, I definitely think we should consider increasing the limit to three per participant. The income from the tables and the entries ended up at $600. This year we had 7 raffle prizes to offer for our show. The displays and selling tickets early in our demos was again a smooth operation. The 7 raffle prizes brought in $ I am not sure how we received the extra 5 cents with ticket sales in round numbers; maybe a tip for best salesperson. Thanks to all the members that donated or provided donations for these raffle items. We had quite a lot of silent auction and country store items again this year. The items were donations from TVC members, outside businesses, some carving items donated by the Santa Clara Carvers, and from a wood carver s estate sale. The income Continued next page

The country store brought in$157. The wood sales table proved again to be a huge success bringing in $706. We had a large variety of wood for turners and for carvers available this year. I counted over eight types of wood in various sizes. Much of this wood came from our supply of wood stored at Ken s shop. This wood is available anytime for the club, so let me know if you are interested. All in all the show income amounted to $ and expenses were at $ , which is near right on our budget for the show this year and sets us up for next year.
