Figueroa said that there are a lot of different issues, departmental issues, complex problem that needs more time for a solution. Goal is to figure out what is the purpose of the committee is. Rebenok, College of Arts and Sciences Representative asked a question regarding if the committee was going to look for alternatives? Senate does not enforce it, let the Board of Trustees what issues are going on and they go from there. Board of Trustees was presented with the vote, and their job to enforce it. The easy solution was to just get rid of the smoking gardens but there are to many roadblocks to get to that point. Hoping the committee will help with the solution. Jill stated that she was here about a year ago to show people, how to register people how to vote. Voter Registration poster will be posted in the dorms. This guide is about registering voters. If people want to vote in this election you have to register by Oct. 19. It is important to do this training, and do it correctly. You need to acquire voter registration cards; circulators are registered votes, setting up in a high traffic area with the permission to do so. Important to have the table and area set up. When you are collecting these cards, you need to keep it in a secure place. This is a legal document, have a secure place to keep it. Understanding the basic rules: you have to register anyone to vote, you cannot say no. If people want to register in private, you can let them take a card with them. You cannot provide an incentive to get people to vote, if you do so that is illegal. You cannot charge a fee to register to vote. Do not pre-print any statement or information on the cards, and you cannot alter any information that is on the card. For corrections, have them cross it out and initial it. Do not copy, collect, or share the information on the cards. Fill out that you did help them box, is for those who filled it out for someone. Be sure to give the receipt to the voter. Submit the cards within 3 business days of completion. Kealy, Vice President of Business Administration asked a question regarding age requirement for those turning 18 years old around the time of elections. Jill said that as long as they are 18 on the day of Election Day they are eligible to vote. You do not need to be a registered voted to register people to vote. You cant deny anyone who want to vote either. US citizens, California residents, and 18 years old are the people who are allowed to vote on Election Day in San Francisco. It is your choice, in where you register to vote. If you are living outside your home, you should let them know so that you can let them know where you are to vote. Don t vote twice in a federal election, that is a federal offence. 2

23 Hodges, LGBTQ Representative asked a question regarding his voter registration, since he is originally from Tennessee but reregistered in California. Jill said that he will be only able to vote here in San Francisco. Wu, Senior Class Representative asked a question regarding moving? Jill said that every time you move you should reregister to vote. There are ways for us to find out if you don t live there, elections mail does not forward, so we get the bounce back. Jill said that you couldn t vote twice, since it is a federal offence you will go to prison. You are a resident of SF you are live here, if you go to school outside SF, and if you are in the military or Peace Corps, you can vote in San Francisco. Homeless people can register to vote, look at line 4, and leave it blank. On Line 6 make sure they fill a mailing address. Foreign citizens, incompetent by court of law, currently in prison for felony offense cannot vote. Update when you move, change your legal name, or change political party. You can vote by mail, and have that mailed to you. You can register online through the use of your driver s license and or state id. Encourage people to mark their language preference. Review the registration card; make sure the important things are all filled out. They will receive a proof of registration card in about two weeks. Returning the registration card, they are postage free or you a can bring them to city hall. Craven, School of Nursing and Health Professions Representative asked a question regarding if there is another way to check if you are registered in another place? Yes we can check that for you online, and or through phone. Fragoso, Vice President of Sustainability asked a question regarding the Presidential Primary in California? Jill said it was on June 7th the presidential primary for California. McNamee introduced the Gregory Wolcott, Vice Provost for Student Life as the guest speaker and their subject was a Navigating USF. Special place in his heart, he has participated in student government as well as advised the ASUSF Senate. Wolcott is here to talk to the Senate about navigating USF. Like any organization it is a high structure and complex organization. You may or may not interact with the different facets of the university. The Board of Trustees talks about funding and tuition, the president reports to the Bot, and VPs and Vice Provosts report to the President. A variety of people report to Provost as well. Mission of Student Life is to fully support holistic student development within a social justice framework. This is the Organizational Chart of Student Life. On the other side of the page is a specific on the Student Life. Polak, Off-Campus Student Representative said that their issue was on the safety shuttle; it becomes a problem if you live further out. Expanding the reach into the city by at least 0.5 a mile. Senior Director of Public Safety. It will cost more money, and lessen the amount of trips that can be done. It will be creating a longer wait time for those wanting to use the shuttle. Can we make electric cars? Expand the radius, will allow for more people to use the shuttle, expand it for more students. Henna, On-Campus Student Representative said that there issue was the two-week period when students are given housing, cases when students are living in their cars, contacting Director of Student Housing, ad Off Campus Housing Director. Wolcott said that you are going to need to be staffed; all you want a break as well. They use that time to clean the facilities. Craven, School of Nursing and Health Professions Representative said that they would like to have 3 public posting boards, Facilities, Financial. Public Safety to check the boards, get places for location, designs. Rezaize, Junior Class Representative said that they want to find better and more affordable housing options. Certain time slots to find housing, right after May and before August, it s the prime time to find housing. CASA to get the word out, and Marci for marketing. 3

24 Jiwani, Students of Color Representative said that they wanted to work on inclusion, especially for freshman. Ambassadors to come and talk, GO Team, NSOs, and SLE, to create more student engagement. Munoz, Senior Class Representative said that one of their goals is to have senior talks about after graduation. Wolcott ended the talk by saying that this is just the start, narrow down the goals, and try and find out how you will accomplish this. Break A motion was made by Polak, and seconded to approve a break. The motion was passed and a break was taken at 7:11 PM. Old Business McNamee introduced the Brittany Sanguma, Assistant Director for Campus Engagement as the guest speaker and their subject was a Elections Polling. Share updates: we have 70 applicants for Senate and RHC. Most of the candidates are for RHC. For all senate spots there is one person running, the only position up for appointment is Non-traditional Age Student Representative. Final list of candidates will be submitted end of day Friday. Campaigning starts on Thursday. Jonathan has been leading the Elections effort. We need you all in support to make this happen. Beyond Senate, there are a lot of students that are being elected into the leadership of RHC and Senate. Promote all positions that are up for grabs. Buy-in, why vote: they pay a lot of money you spend have your voice heard, easiest way to be heard, understanding what you are looking for things, student issues that we must talk about everyday, creating the atmosphere for people to come and talk about big and small issues, as our university we should be trying to improve, universities should move up, get new fresh ideas. Really a space to make your own and have your voice heard. Being able to articulate, what senate does and what you do to get people to vote. Increase participation in elections. The 24 of September is Election Day. In the past we had a week long election, get everyone excited have a kick off day, and invite other orgs, have it be an event not just an engaging week of elections. On Election Day, having ideas that will attract people to be there, get people there. Pushing that opportunity. Created a 1-minute video, we will vote, promotional video. Sanguma said that the Senators are all required to do polling; everyone should be at Election Day. McNamee introduced the Laureano Figueroa, ASUSF President as the guest speaker and their subject was a Approve Tobacco Ban Advisory Board Committee & Codes. Munoz, Senior Class Representative made a motion to create the Tobacco Ban Advisory Committee, and was seconded by Tin Dinh, LGBTQ Representative. The Senate unanimously approved. The motion carried, and the Tobacco Ban Advisory Committee was created. Nick Wu, Senior Class Representative made a motion to approve the Tobacco Ban Advisory Committee Codes, and was seconded by Christian Polak. The Senate inanimously approved. The motion carried, and the Tobacco Ban Advisory Committee Codes were approved. 4

25 Sanguma stated that the people, who participate in this committee, would be in addition to the one they are already on. And asked for those who were interested to raise their hands. Patricia Kealy Raissa Reis Shaya Kara Nicholas Fragoso Jonathan Munoz Thomas Bond Tin Dinh Figueroa stated that once the committee chair has been identified, they will start the recruitment of students at-large. New Business McNamee introduced the Ekaterina Rebenok and Christian Caddali, College of Arts and Sciences Representatives as the guest speaker and their subject was the College of Arts and Sciences. Facts about the school: teachers have garnered national recognition, premiering in art and film venues, students have published along with faculty, engaged in the community. Students have changed the world from here. Last year, 96.5% very satisfied with the knowledge and skills gained. Rebenok said that she is working on a project deans honor list, recognition program where students who get higher 3.7 gpa you get a certificate. I decided that students are putting a lot of effort in the work they do, it would be great to get them more other than a certificate. Working in providing them better benefits, thinking about bookstore gift cards, financial aid, scholarships, early on campus registration moving, early registration for classes. Receive this award, you have to be consistent and get it two semesters in a row. Implement the plan by the end of the semester, and or work on it till the spring. To make it work, going to meet with the Dean, discuss with him our ideas, implement this in other schools a swell. Wu, Senior Class Representative said that for CAS, the majors difficulty varies have different standards based on major. Figueroa, ASUSF Senate President said that there are some majors that are a bit more rigorous, that is more subjective, how would you qualify that Reis, Vice President of Public Relations said that there are people who have more of an affinity for something. Rank majors goes against Dinh, LGBTQ Representative asked if there was a better way to expand the school of arts? Only arts department is underneath from, it is the smallest department and place. Think about expanding the place. Kealy, Vice President of Business administration said that they should collaborate with other schools; I want to talk to the dean and see how it will work Badar, School of Nursing and Health Professions said that rather than, identify top students in each major, and go from there Jiwani, Students of Color Representative said that ranking is frowned upon, there are so many majors Executive Reports The President reported that he will be having a meeting with CASA. He finished the Transfer student codes, along with the Board of Trustees Report and will be going to the BoT meeting this Thursday. He is also working on getting a time for Vision Committee. 5
