To help clarify and inform everyone, beginning in April, we will put a brief article in the newsletter every month reminding everyone how the Sunshine Committee receives information and sends cards to residents. You will find in your newsletter the name and phone number of the Sunshine Lady for the month. If you know of any resident that you feel should receive a card (a bit of sunshine) from the community (get well, hospital, death, care taker or thinking of you), you are to call the Sunshine Lady and give her the information. Immediately she will send the card and put the name and reason for the card on the yellow sheet (SUNSHINE REPORT). This report is on the board in the Activity Room. We urge everyone to check this sheet often. Because of newsletter deadlines, this information will not be in the newsletter until the following month. Due to HIPA, we are unable to give any additional information. Please call the Sunshine Ladies with any questions you may have. Margo Barbara Mary THANK YOU! So the information you put in the app will help medical personnel in the event of an emergency. You can include your name, date of birth, whether you are an Organ Donor, Medical Notes, Medications, Blood Type, Height, Weight, and Emergency Contacts. That information could help emergency personnel save your life. At the very least it s a handy list of your medications when you need them for a doctor s appointment. Richard

5 Page 5 Lakeview Center Newsle er ARBOR GATE SPOTLIGHT The Arbor Gate Spotlight this month is on Carl and Helen Ostertag, who are quite active in our community center. Carl and Helen moved to Arbor Gate in Their beautiful home has a daylight basement where Carl spends enjoyable hours in his woodshop, while Helen does quilting and sewing alterations in her sewing room. Helen is currently a member of the Lebanon Quilters Guild of Lebanon County and she had won several prizes for her unique quilts while living in Virginia. Helen serves as our volunteer librarian and has displayed her quilts in our library. We depend on Carl each year to surprise us with his beautiful wood centerpieces for our Christmas dinner tables. Carl is a member of the singing Cedars Barbershop Chorus and sings in their Zion Methodist Church choir. Helen helps with the church breakfasts at Zion. Before Arbor Gate, Carl and Helen lived in New Jersey on their 6 acre place in a house built by Carl and his first wife, Betty. Carl tells the story this way: Betty, 46 years old, knowing that she would not win her long battle with cancer advised Carl to think about remarrying after her death with one condition that Carl would wait for one year, so that he would not do anything stupid! Carl kept his promise and 1 and 1/2 years later he and Helen were married with Carl s son, Craig, and Helen s sister, Henrietta, serving in the wedding party. Their marriage took place in Helen s Presbyterian Church and the reception was held in Carl s Methodist Church hall. After 40 years, their entire life has been one of cooperation and respect for each other. Helen had been a school bus driver and public transportation bus drive. (I ll bet she kept order on that school bus!) Carl quit high school in 1945 and apprenticed in a print shop. He served in the Air Force from , and after his discharge worked for 25 years in the printing field. He then taught graphic arts for 20 years at the Sussex County Vo-Tech School in New Jersey where he was named Teacher of the Year. During that time he attended night classes for 12 years and earned a Master s Degree. Carl was a member of our first Lakeview Center Board and helped with the drafting of the By-Laws. He recalls watching the construction of our beautiful Lakeview Center. Helen and Carl invite the new residents to Please get involved. There is so much available to us here at the Lakeview Center. Arbor Gate is a style of living, not just beautiful houses. It is a way of life and it is the answer to staying young. Carl is proud to say that on May 2, 2018, he will celebrate his 90th birthday. This is the first of a series of ar cles I hope to present in our newsle er. If you wish to be featured in next month s Spotlight, feel free to contact me Eleanor
