1 GMIS Individual Awards Herschel Strickland Award In 2008, the Ambassador of the Year Award was renamed the Herschel Strickland Award to honor the memory of Herschel s genuine love of GMIS and for his many contributions to the organization. This annual award honors a GMIS individual member or GMIS agency member whose efforts directly resulted in GMIS significantly advancing its goals to be the premiere state and local government IT organization. Outstanding Professional Award This competitive award recognizes an individual from one of the GMIS member agencies whose contributions and performance resulted in an exceptional level of operational excellence. GMIS Member Agency Awards GMIS G2 Award Government in fulfilling its mission is expected to collaborate with and serve other entities. This competitive award recognizes the GMIS member agency whose IT project exhibits the best example of G2 of the year. Eligible categories are: G2C (citizens), G2B (business), and G2G (government). GMIS Best Practices Award This competitive award recognizes the GMIS member agency whose exceptional IT project and/or IT policy is repeatable by other GMIS members so that the level of excellence can be elevated for all. GMIS State Chapter Award GMIS Champion Chapter Award This annual award honors the state chapter who has most furthered the overall goals of GMIS International. GMIS Vendor Award GMIS International Platinum Partner Award This award recognizes a single Vendor/Partner who has provided exceptional support to the GMIS membership throughout the year by providing excellence in IT products and/or IT services and who has also supported the GMIS organization via active sponsorships, promotional activities, educational programs, and participation in GMIS activities.

All individual GMIS members and GMIS member agencies are eligible for this award. Nominations are solicited and compiled by the Awards Subcommittee. The Awards Subcommittee is comprised of one Executive Board Officer who chairs the subcommittee and his/her appointed members from the GMIS Advisory Council. Nominations may originate from the Executive Board, the Awards Subcommittee, or the general GMIS population. During the nomination process, the Awards Subcommittee will document and submit the following information to the Executive Board. Name of the individual person or agency being nominated Name of the corresponding GMIS state chapter Description of the efforts made that are worthy of consideration Description of the tangible results The annual winner is selected by a majority vote of the Executive Board from the submitted nominations, with the Awards Chairperson abstaining. It is the responsibility of the Awards Chairperson to ensure that any person or agency nominated for this award does not indirectly influence or directly vote. Whenever a GMIS member or his/her agency is nominated for this award and that person is also sitting on the Awards Subcommittee or the Executive Board, that person and his/her agency shall be excluded from all evaluations, discussions, and activities surrounding this award. 3 Outstanding Professional Award This prestigious award recognizes an individual from one of the GMIS member agencies whose contributions and performance resulted in an exceptional level of operational excellence. GMIS has presented this competitive award since 1985 when it was initially called the GMIS Data Processing Professional Award. All individual GMIS members are eligible for this award. Nominations are solicited by the Awards Subcommittee from the general GMIS population. The Awards Subcommittee is comprised of one Executive Board Officer who chairs the subcommittee and his/her appointed members from the GMIS Advisory Council. Any eligible GMIS agency may nominate an individual whose contributions and performance resulted in an exceptional level of excellence to that agency. All nomination submissions must contain the following information. Name of person being nominated, his/her GMIS member agency, and his/her State Chapter Name and contact information of nominator Description of the efforts made that are worthy of consideration Description of the tangible results, including pertinent graphs, photos, and/or metrics NOTE: Total number of pages must not exceed 10 The Awards Subcommittee will review and rate all nominations and submit the winning candidate to the Executive Board. The chosen professional is invited to the International Conference as a guest of GMIS at which time he/she will be honored with the GMISOPA Award. As an included benefit, GMIS will pay the winner s travel, lodging and registration. It is the responsibility of the Awards Chairperson to ensure that any person nominated for this award does not indirectly influence or directly vote. Whenever a GMIS member is nominated for this award and that person is also sitting on the Awards Subcommittee or the Executive Board, that person shall be excluded from all evaluations, discussions, and activities surrounding this award. The Awards Subcommittee is comprised of one Executive Board Officer who chairs the subcommittee and his/her appointed members from the GMIS Advisory Council. Any eligible GMIS agency may nominate a project (or projects) demonstrating an exceptional example of government successfully collaborating with and/or serving other entities. All nomination submissions must contain the following information. Title of the project being nominated Category of project: G2C, G2B, or G2G Name and contact information of nominator Name of primary GMIS agency responsible for the project Name of the corresponding GMIS state chapter Brief summary of the purpose of the project (for display on GMIS website - up to 300 words) Identification of the other entity or entities involved as stakeholders, customers, or collaborators Include a detailed description of project o Include timeline of project with approximate start and end dates o Include summary of the effort involved o Include project costs, savings, revenues o Include tangible results and benefits o Include why this project is unique and/or innovative o Include optional graphs, photos, and/or metrics NOTE: Total number of pages must not exceed 10 The Awards Subcommittee will review and rate all nominated projects and submit the winning project to the Executive Board. Submitters may be given optional timeslots to speak and give presentations on their innovative projects during one or more GMIS events. It is the responsibility of the Awards Chairperson to ensure that any agency nominating a project for this award does not indirectly influence or directly vote. Whenever a GMIS agency nominates a project for this award and that agency has a representative sitting on the Awards Subcommittee or the Executive Board, that person shall be excluded from all evaluations, discussions, and activities surrounding this award.

5 GMIS Best Practices Award This competitive award recognizes the GMIS member agency whose exceptional IT project and/or IT policy is repeatable by other GMIS members so that the level of excellence can be elevated for all. The year 2011 is the first year that this award will be presented. All GMIS member agencies are eligible for this award. Nominations are solicited by the GMIS Awards Subcommittee from the general GMIS population. The Awards Subcommittee is comprised of one Executive Board Officer who chairs the subcommittee and his/her appointed members from the GMIS Advisory Council. Any eligible GMIS agency may nominate a project or policy demonstrating an exceptional example of a best practice that could be repeatable by other GMIS members. All nomination submissions must contain the following information. Title of the project or policy being nominated Name and contact information of nominator Name of the corresponding GMIS agency Name of the corresponding GMIS state chapter Brief summary of the project or policy (for display on GMIS website - up to 300 words) Include a detailed description of project or policy o Include relevant timelines o Include summary of the effort involved o Include any relevant costs, savings, revenues o Include tangible results and benefits o Include why this project or policy is unique and/or innovative o Include optional graphs, photos, and/or metrics NOTE: Total number of pages must not exceed 10 The Awards Subcommittee will review and rate all nominated projects and submit the winning project to the Executive Board. 6 GMIS Champion Chapter Award This annual award honors the state chapter who has most furthered the overall goals of GMIS International. The year 2011 is the first year that this award will be presented. All GMIS State Chapters are eligible for this award. Nominations are solicited and compiled by the Awards Subcommittee. The Awards Subcommittee is comprised of one Executive Board Officer who chairs the subcommittee and his/her appointed members from the GMIS Advisory Council. Nominations may originate from the Executive Board, the Awards Subcommittee, or the general GMIS population. During the nomination process, the Awards Subcommittee will document and submit the following information to the Executive Board. Name of each GMIS state chapter being nominated Description of the efforts made by each nominated state chapter that are worthy of consideration o Include the level of activities, workshops, conferences, outreach efforts Description of the tangible progress of each nominated state chapter o Include physical number of new GMIS member agencies in state o Include the percent increase of new GMIS member agencies in state o Include the dollar value of the additional GMIS membership dues in state o Include the number of renewing agency members for that state o Include the percent of renewing agency members for that state o Include number of chapter individuals attending an out-of-state GMIS International conference o Include number of chapter agencies represented at an out-of-state GMIS International conference o Include percent of chapter agencies represented at an out-of-state GMIS International conference o If applicable, include data from hosting a GMIS International conference The Awards Subcommittee will assign a numerical score or ranking to all state chapters under consideration based on a compilation of the above metrics. The annual winner is selected from the submitted nominations by a majority vote of the Executive Board. It is the responsibility of the Awards Chairperson to ensure that any State Chapter nominated for this award does not indirectly influence or directly vote. Whenever a GMIS State Chapter is nominated for this award and that State Chapter has one or more representatives sitting on the Awards Subcommittee or the Executive Board, all such persons shall be excluded from all evaluations, discussions, and activities surrounding this award. In the rare case where a quorum of the Board cannot be achieved for a majority vote, the Chairperson of the Awards Subcommittee shall make arrangements for State Chapter Presidents to serve as proxy voters. These proxy voters shall not represent states being considered for this award.

7 GMIS International Platinum Partner Award This prestigious award recognizes a single Vendor/Partner who has provided exceptional support to the GMIS membership throughout the year by providing excellence in IT products and/or IT services and who has also supported the GMIS organization via active sponsorships, promotional activities, educational programs, and participation in GMIS activities. The year 2011 is the first year that this award will be presented. All current GMIS vendor/partners are eligible for this award. Nominations are solicited and compiled by the Awards Subcommittee. The Awards Subcommittee is comprised of one Executive Board Officer who chairs the subcommittee and his/her appointed members from the GMIS Advisory Council. Nominations may originate from the Executive Board, the Awards Subcommittee, or the general GMIS population. During the nomination process, the Awards Subcommittee will document and submit the following information to the Executive Board. Name of each GMIS vendor/partner being nominated Description of the traits of each nominated vendor/partner that are worthy of consideration o Total number of years as a GMIS vendor/partner o Overall level of GMIS activities, outreach efforts, sponsorships o Overall reputation for quality of products and services o Educational programs and speaking engagements at GMIS conferences The Awards Subcommittee will assign a numerical score to all vendor/partners under consideration based on a compilation of the above metrics. The Awards Subcommittee will review and rate all nominations and submit the tallies and recommendations to the Executive Board. The annual winner is selected by a majority vote of the Executive Board, with the Awards Chairperson abstaining. The chosen vendor/partner may be given optional timeslots to speak and give presentations on their products, services, and/or new initiatives during one or more GMIS events.
