MEMBER SOCIETIES 2.1 SOCIETY REPORTS 2.2 APPLICATIONS MONTENEGRO

2 2(6) A mail ballot of the Montenegrin Society s approval for the IFCC Full Member was sent out on Aug. 20, The deadline for ballots is Nov. 30, EB approved the Montenegrin Society unanimously as a Full Member of the IFCC. 24 members have sent their vote, all positive. Final approval can be given only after the deadline of the voting at the end of November SRI LANKA EB approved the application of the Association for Clinical Biochemistry, Sri Lanka (ACBSL). A mail ballot for the Sri Lanka Society s approval as the IFCC Full Member will be prepared and sent the National Societies. 3. CORPORATE MEMBERS 3.1 CURRENT MEMBERS Corporate Members will have a special meeting during the IFCC General Conference on April 13-15, 2008, in Antalya, Turkey. 4. AFFILIATED MEMBERS 4.2. APPLICATIONS PALESTINE EB approved the Palestinian Medical Technology Association as an Affiliate Member. 5. REGIONAL ORGANISATIONS 5.4. EFCC (EUROPEAN FEDERATION OF CHEMISTRY and LABORATORY MEDICINE) EB approved the memorandum of understanding between IFCC and EFCC. 6. INTERNATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL ORGANISATIONS 6.2. CLSI EB approved the IFCC-CLSI projects (How to Construct an Error Grid for Diagnostic Assays, Evaluating Between Reagent Lot Variation, Estimation of Total Analytical Error for Clinical Laboratory Methods; Approved Guideline (EP21-A). EB will send CLSI nominations of persons to represent IFCC in these projects. 7. CONGRESS AND CONFERENCE DIVISION EB decided that due to the increased participation of Emmezeta Congressi and the IFCC office the Congress and Conference Division will be changed to a Committee on Congresses and Conferences(C-CC). The Committee will consist of a Chair, two members, and a corporate member. As this Committee will report directly to EB there will be an assigned EB liaison. 7.4 IFCC SPECIALIZED CONGRESSES

3 3(6) Ortho Clinical Diagnostics Congress on Biochemical Markers in Clinical Cardiology: Perspectives from present to future will be held on May 18 th 19 th 2008 in Birmingham UK, immediately prior to the Association for Clinical Biochemists annual congress. 11 th Bergmeyer Conference will be held on March 3-5, 2008 in Eibsee, Germany. The topic is Markers of Kidney Disease IFCC-ROCHE TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIPS IFCC has an agreement with Roche, which will give a year for 4 years for travel scholarships to attend major IFCC meetings. Travel scholarships are intended for those who are not yet 40y of age on January 1 of the year in which the Congress will be held. EB formed a Task Force Roche-IFCC Congress Scholarship for Developing countries, whose members are Chair of C-CC, Treasurer, EB Liaison with C-CC, President as Chair of TF. TF will write the guidelines for how to apply for the travel scholarships by December 31, CONGRESSES WITH IFCC AUSPICES CCD has granted IFCC auspices to the congresses that will be held in Finland, Columbia, Switzerland, Slovenia, and Greece. EB approved the C-CC Budget. 8. SCIENTIFIC DIVISION 7.2 INTERNATIONAL CONGRESSES OF CLINICAL CHEMISTRY There will be two SD symposia in the WorldLab 2008 (XX International Congress of Clin. Chem. and Lab. Med.) Fortaleza (BR), September 28th October 2nd, ) Achieving standardization in Laboratory Medicine - A hard but feasible task, Chair L Siekmann 2) Quality Assurance in Emerging Technologies, Chair I Young 8.2. COMMITTEES C-NOMENCLATURE, PROPERTIES AND UNITS (NPU) The consensus statement on HbA1c has been finalized. A letter has been sent to the National Societies, Corporate Members informing them of the consensus statement on HbA1c and of the C-NPU publications on the issue. Editorial: Implementation of haemoglobin A1c results traceable to the IFCC Reference system: the way forward. CCLM 2007; 45: Global Standardization of glycated haemoglobin measurement: the position of the IFCC Working group. CCLM 2007; 45: Recommendation for term and measurement unit for HbA1c. 4 4(6) IUPAC Subcommittee/committee on Nomenclature, Properties and Units, Minutes of the meeting in Torino on Aug.5, C - STANDARDISATION OF MARKERS OF CARDIAC DAMAGE (C-SMCD) EB approved the appointment of Fred Apple as Chair of C-SMCD for 2 nd term. EB approved the appointment of J Ordoñez-Llanos, ES for a 2 nd term. The number of Committee members will be reduced by one. EB approved a new WG on Standardization of Cardiac Troponin I and for Jill Tate to be its Chair C-REFERENCE INTERVALS AND DECISION LIMITS (C-RIDL) EB approved F. Ceriotti for the second term as Chair WG-STANDARDISATION OF THYROID FUNCTION TESTS (WG-STFT) EB approved the appointment of Linda Thienpont for the second term as Chair WG-Standardization of Carbohydrate-deficient Transferrin (CDT) EB approved Anders Helander for the second term as Chair WG-STANDARDIZATION OF CYSTATIN C (WG-SCC) EB approved Anders Grubb for the second term as Chair WG- Standardisation of Albumin Assay in Urine (SAU) EB approved that Greg Miller will chair the joint NKDEP-IFCC project WG- Standardisation of Pregnancy-Associated Plasma Protein A (PAPP-A) EB approved the SD proposal to appoint Kim Pettersson as Chair WG- Standardisation of Insulin Assays (SIA) A new WG has been established in cooperation with ADA/EASD. IFCC representatives are L Thienpont-BE and P Clark-UK. Projects of the WG are: The development of a reference method for the measurement of insulin by ID- LC/tandem MS. To establish the suitability or otherwise of a lyophilized recombinant human insulin preparation as a reference material. To establish the performance of commercially available insulin assays compared to the ID-LC/tandem MS method Other Business EB approved Mauro Panteghini s membership of the Advisory Board for the European Project PREVID. EB decided that all Divisions should apply a scoring system in evaluating the Cs and WGs. EB approved the SD budget.

EDUCATION AND MANAGEMENT DIVISION 9.1 ACTIVITIES AND REPORTS IFCC-Abbott Visiting Lectureships has been agreed for 2007 and some for Committee on Clinical Molecular Biology Curriculum (C-CMBC) EB approved and appointed Michael Neumaier a new Chair of C-CMBC Committee on Clinical Laboratory Management (C-CLM) EB approved the IFCC Statement on the use of ISO in the accreditation of medical laboratories Other Business EB approved the questionnaire IFCC Programme for Developing Quality Competence in Medical Laboratories EB approved Developing Quality Competence in Medical Laboratories. EB approved the EMD budget. 10. COMMUNICATION AND PUBLICATIONS DIVISION ACTIVITY REPORT EB approved the Chinese, Italian and Portuguese translations of the IFCC PR brochure. EB approved a new Committee on Public Relations. The respective WG will be closed. The Chair will be Khrosow Adeli. EB decided to have the Handbook as paper version and on the web, but not on CD Other Business EB approved the nomination of Prof Plebani to the position of IFCC editor of Documents for a term of three years, starting Jan 1, EB approved having an IFCC booth in AACC in Washington DC in July EB approved the CPD budget. 13 SPECIAL PROJECTS The President suggested that CPD work with AACC to facilitate access to developing countries for Young's Effects on-line PROFESSIONAL SCIENTIFIC EXCHANGE PROGRAM One PSEP visit has started on Sept. 1, One PSEP approval has been cancelled. Two new applications are waiting for final documentation and approval.

6 6(6) EB decided that a person can receive only one PSEP TASK FORCE ON PEDIATRIC LABORATORY MEDICINE XIth International Congress of Pediatric Laboratory Medicine will be held on Sep 26-28, 2008 in Fortaleza ( INTEGRATED IFCC PROJECTS The two projects chosen for the pilot integrated projects are: Screening for kidney disease and Cytochrome 450 genetics related to pharmacogenetics. The mission is to have a joint guideline on both issues. The projects should include clinicians, and they should not be limited to only to scientific issues. 14. IFCC STATUTES AND RULES 14.2 RULES 8.3 For an alternate (proxy) to be eligible to vote for any nominee, the person has to be a member of any Member National Society, and the Secretary of the IFCC Executive Board will be informed by the National Society in writing at least one month prior to the voting, the name of the proxy who will represent the National Society. In addition, the nominee must present a copy of this letter at the time of registration to be eligible to vote. No exceptions for the above will be accepted. Any Proxy can register only one vote. EB approved the change of the Rules (marked in bold). 16. ORGANISATIONAL MATTERS 16.2 AWARDS COMMITTEE EB approved Prof. Nobori (JP) as an Award Committee member. AC with the help of IFCC Office distributed broadly the information about the IFCC Awards and has asked for the nominations. Awards will be bestowed in 2008 (all in Fortaleza, Brazil). The dead-line for the application is January 15, General Conference An invitation letter for the IFCC General Conference, which will be held in Kemer, Turkey, on Apr 13-15, 2008, with the preliminary agenda and the registration form has been sent to National Societies and Corporate Members.
