As of February 14 in St. Francis we have put a little more than 4,000 miles on the car. We have visited 20 units and talked with members of other units on the road during the snowmobile weekend. It has been an experience I ll never forget, even though there are days when I seriously question what I was thinking back when this all started. Have you been promoting Girls State? This year s Girls Stater could be a United States senator or District judge someday. And who should be proud of that? Are you and your Post making plans for the 2018 National convention in Minneapolis? There will most likely be several opportunities to make your Post seen and heard. As always, contact your delinquent members and ask if the Unit can help in any way. Dawne There will be a President s testimonial. DETAILS BELOW INSIDE Prayer for March 2016 Our Father in Heaven, lead us to be strong Americans. To rededicate ourselves in the principles of justice, freedom and democracy. With all the injustice of terrorism, senseless killings and all the turmoil this country is in we need to make our voices heard that we have had enough. Our Country s leaders need to know that all this is not going to be tolerated. Pray for our service men and women who have been asked to protect us from such evils. Pray and bless the families that sacrifice so much. May God be with each and every one of us as we journey on day by day. AMEN Cheryl Pfeifer 10 th District Chaplain 10 th District American Legion Auxiliary Newsletter Volume 7 March 2016

7 Leadership by Carol Kottom February 13 th found a group of 14 ladies in Buffalo at the leadership/strategic planning class. We had 4 members from 3 rd District that attended what a treat! 3 rd District President Karla Otterness was there and brought her Strategic Planning Goal charts with. Morning found us watching and discussing a power point which tied the programs to strategic plans. Along with that were some flag etiquette question and answers, poppy questions and answers, POW/MIA remembrance service full script, and various printouts from National regarding the strategic plan. 3 rd District President Karla broke us up into three groups. She had a poster board for each goal and our job was to write all of our ideas on accomplishing a goal and then rotating to the next goal. Here are the ideas we had: Goal 5 Build Brand Loyalty Goal 4 Strengthen Units Wear an item that shows the Logo or Brand Less bickering Distribute Legionnaire and Auxiliary Teamwork magazine to other places Communication/ ing Pictures of events posted on social media Fun Be visible in the community Plan of action Work with other organizations (speaker on Involvement/listen behalf of our organization) Making new members feel welcome Hot dish lunches in the community Personal contact If wearing Legion wear - $.50 off a drink Make public aware of what we do Wear Honoring their Service button Be open to changes Work with your local newspaper Making Auxiliary information available Know and understand the organization and its mission Goal 3 Develop Leadership Goal 2 Culture of Goodwill Mentor Chairman Golden Rule Host/attend leadership training Work of volunteer in the community and wear Make sure new members do not sit along at your American Legion Auxiliary attire meetings and events Celebrate each other s talents Furnish Auxiliary brochures and materials Create a welcoming environment Us words not acronyms Compliment and give credit where due Encourage/take members to outside Do teachers appreciation auxiliary events rallies, conventions, etc Set a good example Introduce members to the Legion Family Praise in public, criticize in private Use Unit Guides buy for officers and Encourage participation chairmen Go out of your way to greet newcomers and Member handbook made available infrequent attendees Share Unit Guide and handbook Encourage members to attend Memorial Day events/veterans day Goal 1 Attain a Million Members ASK Have Girl Staters be members Talk to Legionnaires Hand out Member Handbook Carry applications Personal Contact Talk positive! In the afternoon the girls took part in a civility-diversity skit. What fun!! Then we proceeded to our open forum. Discussion regarding developing leaders, engaging new members, fall conference, how do we get new members, how do we keep old members, parliamentary procedure, rising membership goals, strengthening our Units, Districts and Departments, along with many others item too numerous to list.
