EXPERIENCE FLORIDA A&M UNIVERSITY Director, Governmental Relations Create and maintain sound relationships with federal, state and local officials Serve as a University liaison on governmental issues with the FAMU s Congressional Delegation, Florida Legislature, and other state level educational boards, councils, or commissions. Represent the University at legislative or legislatively related-meetings as needed, before, during, and after the legislative session. Inform and engage trustees, faculty, staff, students and alumni in the legislative process. Coordinate the development of the University legislative action plan. Coordinate legislative visits to campus Develop newsletters, fact sheets and flyers to inform faculty, students and staff of legislative issues BROWARD COLLEGE Special Assistant to the President and for Governmental Relations Serve as the President s representative and spokesperson for college before civic and governmental entities as needed Serve as a college liaison on governmental issues with the Broward s Congressional Delegation, Florida Legislature, Florida Board of Education, and other state level educational boards, councils, or commissions. Represent the college at legislative or legislatively related-meetings as needed, before, during, and after the legislative session. Submit and monitor projects for Congressional funding to Broward Congressional Delegation Coordinate the development of the college s legislative action plan. Coordinate legislative visits to campus Develop newsletters, fact sheets and flyers to inform faculty, students and staff of legislative issues Coordinate a legislative internship program SENATE COMMITTEE ON HIGHER EDUCATION Legislative Chief Analyst November 1992 August 1999 Reported directly to the Chairman of the Appropriations Committee and Staff Director on legislation affecting state appropriations Reviewed all bills to determine their fiscal impact or the extent to which they substantially affected appropriations or tax revenues Met with Senators and their staff as well as committee staff on bills having a fiscal impact. Conducted training sessions on the appropriations process for Senate District legislative assistants Recommended to the Senate Chair of the Appropriations Committee bills that could be withdrawn or heard in committee for passage. Met with budget staff to discuss fiscal analysis Met with House staff and legislators to discuss provisions to be included in the Budget Implementing Bill.

4 EXECUTIVE OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR Executive Staff Policy Coordinator for Education/November November 1992 Served as chief policy advisor to the Governor and Lt. Governor in the area of education. Served as the Governor's office liaison between all local, state, and federal entities addressing key and emerging education issues. Represented the Governor at legislative committee meetings, task forces, work groups, hearings, and public meetings. Assisted the Governor in the conduct of his duties as chairman of the State Board of Education. Represented the Lieutenant Governor at meetings of the Florida Commission on School Reform and Educational Accountability. Coordinated and developed plans for the implementation of the Governor's education program. Responded to constituent concerns. SENATE COMMITTEE ON HIGHER EDUCATION Staff Director/August 1988 November 1990 Supervised committee staff, advised senators on higher education issues, and analyzed proposed legislation. Oversaw implementation of new laws in the area of higher education. Established and maintained liaison with agencies affected by higher education legislation. Assisted committee members and other members of the Legislature in preparing legislation and amendments. UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA Executive Assistant to the President/November August 1988 Served as liaison between President's Office and university personnel. Represented the President on various institutional councils and committees. Served as liaison to student committees, governing bodies of community colleges and private institutions as they related to the University and with the staff of the Board of Regents and other State governmental entities in matters relating to the Office of the President. Responsible for special projects and reports as assigned by the President. Worked closely with university administrators in development of policy and programs. Prepared the President for meetings, including those with the Board of Regents and legislators. Senate Committee on Education Higher Education Legislative Analyst/February November 1985 Advised and assisted members of the Senate Education Committee and Senators on all matters relating to the Board of Regents, state universities, Community College System, the Postsecondary Education Planning Commission and the private postsecondary institutions.
