12 S.J JOURNAL Wednesday, March 25, 2015 Appendix INVOCATION REVEREND DR. GEORGE ECONOMOU Almighty God, We thank you for this good land of ours which you have given us for our inheritance. May we prove ourselves a people worthy of your blessings and glad to fulfill your will. Bless this land, save it from violence, discord and comfussion; from pride and arrogance, and from every kind of oppression. Help us preserve and increaser our liberties; values denied to the Hellenes by the Ottoman Empire, who on the memorable day of the feast of annunciation March 25, 1821, these valiant and courageous people began their struggle against all odds, to liberate their land from the oppressor. And now O Lord, all holy master, accept our prayers of thanksgiving for the liberation and rebirth of the Greek nation and hear us, who fervently pray to you: give rest to the souls of all those who fought nobly and died with glory for their faith and their country sacrificing their lives to make their land free once again. May we be worthy of the freedom given us by their sacrifice. Preserve us in peace and concord and guide us to every good work that is pleasing to you. Protect, preserve and safeguard the President of our United States, the Governor and Legislative body of our state of Rhode Island, as well as the President and Legislative body of the Republic of Greece, the arm forces of our Nation and Greece that protect our freedoms, and every authority and power in our Nation and the Greek Nation. Make them favorable and well disposing towards all peoples. For you O Lord, are the prince of peace and to you we give glory, Father, Son an Holy Spirit, one God, now an forever. Amen.
