RESOLUTION NO A Resolution granting approval to Fire Protection District No. 8 of Livingston Parish, Louisiana to call and hold an election on November 18, 2017 to authorize the renewal of a mills tax on assessed valuation of all property subject to taxation in Fire Protection District No. 8 of Livingston Parish, Louisiana, for a period of ten (10) years for the purposes of maintaining and operating the District's fire protection facilities, for purchasing fire truck and other fire fighting equipment and paying the cost of obtaining water for fire protection purposes, including charges for the hydrant rentals and services. WHEREAS, Fire Protection District No. 8 of Livingston Parish, Louisiana (the District ) will adopt a Resolution on September 5, 2017 (the District Resolution ) ordering and calling a special election to be held in the District on November 18, 2017, for the purpose of renewing the levy and collection of a mills tax on assessed valuation of all property subject to taxation in the District, for a period of ten (10) years for the purposes of maintaining and operating the District's fire protection facilities, for purchasing fire truck and other fire fighting equipment and paying the cost of obtaining water for fire protection purposes, including charges for the hydrant rentals and services (the Tax ), all in the manner conferred by Article VI, Section 32 of the Louisiana Constitution of 1974, as amended, La. WHEREAS, the District has made application to the Parish Council for approval to call and hold such election on November 18, 2017, as more fully set forth in the District Resolution. WHEREAS, Article VI, Section 15 of the Louisiana Constitution of 1974, as amended, and Section 1415 of Title 33 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, as amended, grant power to the Parish Council to approve any proposal submitted by the District to levy a tax. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Parish Council, as the governing authority of the Parish of Livingston, State of Louisiana, that: SECTION 1. Pursuant to a request submitted to this Parish Council by the District and in accordance with Article VI, Section 15 of the Louisiana Constitution of 1974, as amended and La. R.S. 33:1415, approval is hereby granted to the District to call and hold an election on November 18, 2017, for the purpose of authorizing the renewal of the levy and collection of a mills tax on assessed valuation of all property subject to taxation in the District, for a period of ten (10) years for the purposes of maintaining and operating the District's fire protection facilities, for purchasing fire truck and other fire fighting equipment and paying the cost of obtaining water for fire protection purposes, including charges for the hydrant rentals and services (the Tax ), in the manner conferred by Article VI, Section 32 of the Louisiana Constitution of 1974, as amended, La. NOTICE OF SPECIAL ELECTION Pursuant to the provisions of a Resolution adopted on August 1, 2017 by the Board of Commissioners of Fire Protection District No. 9 of the Parish of Livingston, State of Louisiana (the Governing Authority ), acting as the governing authority of Fire Protection District No. 9 of the Parish of Livingston, State of Louisiana (the District ), NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a special election will be held in the District on SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 2017, and that at said election there will be submitted to all registered voters of the District, qualified in and entitled to vote at said election under the Constitution and laws of the State of Louisiana and the Constitution of the United States, the following proposition, to wit: PROPOSITION (TAX RENEWAL) Shall Fire Protection District No. 9 of the Parish of Livingston, State of Louisiana (the District ) renew the levy and collection of a special tax of ten and thirty-eight hundredths mills (10.38) (an estimated $192, reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year) on all the property subject to taxation in the District for a period of ten (10) years, beginning with the year 2018 and ending with the year 2027, for the purpose of maintaining and operating the District s fire protection facilities and for purchasing fire fighting equipment necessary and incidental thereto?
