3 FFA Chapter Officer Arsenal 3 The FFA Code of Ethics We will conduct ourselves at all times in order to be a credit to our organization, chapter, school and community by: 1. Dressing neatly and appropriately for the occasion. 2. Showing respect for the rights of others and being courteous at all times. 3. Being honest and not taking unfair advantage of others 4. Respecting the property of others. 5. Refraining from loud, boisterous talk, swearing and other unbecoming conduct. 6. Demonstrating sportsmanship in the show ring, judging contests and meetings, and being modest in winning and generous in defeat. 7. Attending meetings promptly and respecting the opinion of others in discussion. 8. Taking pride in our organization, activities, supervised experience programs, exhibits and the occupation of agriculture. 9. Sharing with others experiences and knowledge gained by attending national and state meetings. 10. Strive to establish and enhance my skills through agricultural education in order to enter a successful career. 11. Appreciate and promote diversity in our organization. Adopted by the Delegates at the 1952 National FFA Convention. Official Dress The uniform worn by FFA members at local, state and national functions is called "official dress." It provides identity and gives a distinctive and recognizable image to the organization. Female members are to wear a black skirt, white blouse with official FFA blue scarf, black shoes and official jacket zipped to the top. Black slacks may be worn for traveling and outdoor activities such as judging contests and camping. Official dress for male members is black slacks, white shirt, official FFA tie, black shoes, black socks and official jacket zipped to the top.

4 FFA Chapter Officer Arsenal 4 Proper Use of the FFA Jacket The FFA Jacket is the most recognizable symbol of the organization. As a member, one of your responsibilities is to ensure its proper use. Specific guidelines are outlined below. 1. The jacket is to be worn only by members. 2. The jacket should be kept clean and neat. 3. The jacket should have only a large emblem on the back and a small emblem on the front. It should carry the name of the State Association and the name of the local chapter, district or area on the back and the name of the individual and one office or honor on the front. 4. The jacket should be worn on official occasions with the zipper fastened to the top. The collar should be turned down the cuffs buttoned. 5. The jacket should be worn by members and officers on all official FFA occasions where the chapter or state association is represented. It may be worn to school and other appropriate places. 6. The jacket should only be worn to places that are appropriate for members to visit. 7. School letters and insignia of other organizations should not be attached to or worn on the jacket. 8. When the jacket becomes faded and worn, it should be discarded or the emblems and lettering removed. 9. The emblems and lettering should be removed if the jacket is given or sold to a non-member. 10. A member always acts like a lady or gentleman when wearing the jacket. 11. Members should refrain from the use of tobacco and alcohol while wearing the FFA jacket or officially representing the organization. 12. All chapter degree, officer and award medals should be worn beneath the name on the right side of the jacket, with the exception that a single State FFA Degree charm or American FFA Degree key should be worn above the name or attached to a standard key chain. No more than three medals should be worn on the jacket. These should represent the highest degree earned, the highest office held and the highest award earned by the member.

5 FFA Chapter Officer Arsenal 5 Being a Chapter FFA Officer Chapter officers serve a vital function in FFA. By taking a major leadership role, you will grow from the experience and benefit the chapter. It should be the officers' goal to lead by example and encourage other members to participate in chapter activities. The following are general duties expected of all officers. 1. A genuine desire to be a part of a leadership team. 2. A willingness to accept responsibility. 3. A sincere desire to work with all chapter members in meeting their leadership, personal and chapter goals. 4. A commitment to lead by example. 5. A knowledge and understanding of the chapter, state and national FFA constitutions, bylaws and programs. 6. A working knowledge of parliamentary procedure. 7. An ability to memorize and recite their parts in the official ceremonies. Effective Officer Competencies 1. Communication Demonstrates the effective use of various forms of communication, i.e., non-verbal, listening, written, speaking and facilitation to convey a message in both large and one-on-one settings. You are a messenger of information and it is important to know the facts. 4. Organization Demonstrates the ability to see the big picture, break large projects into smaller tasks, appropriately prioritize multiple demands, and use time management and organizational tools to produce quality results by identified deadline. Coordinate the activities of the chapter and evaluate the progress of each division of the Program of Activities. 4. Represent the chapter in public relations and official functions.

My duties require me to assist at all times in directing the work of our organization. I preside over meetings in the absence of our president, whose place is beneath the rising sun." 1. Assume all duties of the president if necessary. 2. Develop the Program of Activities and serve as an ex-officio (non voting) member of the POA committees. 3. Coordinate all committee work. 4. Work closely with the president and advisor to assess progress toward meeting chapter goals. 5. Establish and maintain a chapter resource file. Secretary: Stationed by the ear of corn. "I keep an accurate record of all meetings and correspond with other secretaries wherever corn is grown and FFA members meet." 1. Prepare and post the agenda for each chapter meeting. 2. Prepare and present the minutes of each chapter meeting. 3. Place all committee reports in the designated area 4. Be responsible for chapter correspondence. 5. Maintain member attendance and activity records and issue membership cards. 6. Keep the Program of Activities wall chart up-to-date. 7. Have on hand for each meeting: a. Official FFA Chapter Secretary's Book including minutes of the previous meeting. b. Copy of the Program of Activities including all standing and special committees. c. Official FFA Manual and the National FFA Student Handbook. d. Copies of the chapter constitution and bylaws Treasurer: Stationed at the emblem of Washington. "I keep a record of receipts and disbursements just as Washington kept his farm accounts-carefully and accurately. I encourage thrift among the members and strive to build up our financial standing through savings and investments. George Washington was better able to serve his country because he was financially independent." 1. Receive, record and deposit FFA funds and issue receipts. 2. Present monthly treasurer's reports at chapter meetings. 3. Collect dues and special assessments.

Prepare and submit the membership roster and dues to the National FFA Organization in cooperation with the secretary. 6. Serve as chairperson of the earnings and savings committee. Reporter: Stationed by the flag. "As the flag covers the United States of America, so I strive to inform the people in order that every man, woman and child may know that the FFA is a national organization that reaches from the state of Alaska to Puerto Rico and from the state of Maine to Hawaii." 1. Plan public information programs with local radio, television, newspaper and service clubs and make use of other opportunities to tell the FFA story. 2. Release news and information to local and regional news media. 3. Publish a chapter newsletter. 4. Prepare and maintain a chapter scrapbook. 5. Send local stories to area, district and state reporters. 6. Send articles and photographs to FFA New Horizons and other national and/or regional publications. 7. Work with local media on radio and television appearances and FFA news. 8. Serve as the chapter photographer. Sentinel: Stationed by the door "Through this door pass many friends of the FFA. I hope that my advice will always be based on true knowledge and ripened with wisdom. 1. Supervise chapter activities year-round. 2. Inform prospective students and parents about the FFA. 3. Instruct students in leadership and personal development. 4. Build school and community support for the program. 5. Encourage involvement of all chapter members in activities. 6. Prepare students for involvement in contests and awards programs. Historian: Stationed by the chapter scrapbook Tradition and history are a source of pride for our organization. It is my duty to maintain a record of chapter achievements and promote excellence through highlighting activities, events and accomplishments so that our chapter membership is motivated by our past successes and looks to future achievements. 1. Develop and maintain a scrapbook of memorabilia in which to record the chapter's history 2. Research and prepare items of significance of the chapter's history. 3. Prepare displays of chapter activities and submit stories of former members to the media. 4. Assist the reporter in providing photography for chapter needs. Student Advisor: Stationed by the owl In the absence of our advisor it becomes my duty to advise on correct and proper meeting procedures. I assist the advisor in planning and carrying out a community awareness program. Without community support, our greatest efforts would mean little. 1. Assist the advisor and other officers as needed 2. Assist in instructing students in leadership and personal development. 3. Assist the advisor in building school and community support for the program.

11 FFA Chapter Officer Arsenal 11 Opening the Meeting (When the time set for the opening of the meeting arrives, the president, after quietly arranging for any necessary officer substitutions, rises, raps for attention, secures order, and proceeds as indicated below. The other officers rise as called upon by the vice president, and remain standing until seated by the president.) President: "The meeting room will come to order. We are now holding a meeting of the East Limestone FFA chapter. Mdm. Vice President, are all officers at their stations?" Vice President: (Rising and facing the president) "I shall call the roll of officers, determine if they are at their stations and report back to you, Mdm. President." Vice President: The Historian? Historian: Stationed at the chapter scrapbook. Vice President: What are your duties? Historian: Tradition and history are a source of pride for our organization. It is my duty to maintain a record of chapter achievements and promote excellence through highlighting activities, events and accomplishments so that our chapter membership is motivated by our past successes and looks to future achievements. I now declare this meeting of the East Limestone FFA chapter duly opened for the transaction of business, or attention to any matters which may properly be presented." (Proceed with the regular order of business)

Secretary, do you have a record of any further business which should now be transacted?" Secretary: (Rises, replies and is seated.) "I have none, Mdm. President." President: "Does any member know of any new or unfinished business which should properly come before this meeting?" (If no answer, proceed as follows.) "We are about to adjourn this meeting of the East Limestone FFA chapter. As we mingle with others, let us be diligent in labor, just in our dealings, courteous to everyone, and, above all, honest and fair in the game of life. Fellow members and guests, join me in a salute to our flag." (Taps three times with gavel to call members to stand, face the flag at the reporter s station, and with their right hands over their hearts, repeat the following pledge.) All in unison: "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." President: "I now declare this meeting adjourned." (Taps once with gavel and the meeting is adjourned.) (The secretary may call the complete roll if necessary and report on that basis. However, it is a time-consuming procedure for a local chapter when all members names are in the Secretary s book where they can be quickly consulted and checked beforehand.)

14 FFA Chapter Officer Arsenal 14 East Limestone FFA Chapter AL0076 ALABAMA FFA ASSOCIATION CONSTITUTION and BYLAWS ARTICLE I. NAME AND PURPOSES SECTION A. The name of this organization shall be the "East Limestone FFA Chapter AL0076." The letters "FFA" and/or the words "Future Farmers of America" may be officially used to designate the organization, its chapters and/or members. SECTION B. The objectives of the East Limestone FFA Chapter AL0076 shall be consistent with Section 3 of the National FFA s federal charter, Public Law "(formerly Public Law 81740)." The organization shall cooperate with national and state government agencies and officials for vocational education in accomplishing the following objectives: 1. To be an integral part of the organized instructional programs in agricultural education which prepare students for a wide range of careers in agriculture, agribusiness, and other agriculture related occupations. 2. To strengthen the confidence of students in themselves and in their work by developing desirable work habits and the effective usage of their time; by learning to assume responsibility; and by developing competencies in communications, human relations, and other social abilities leading to the intelligent choice of a career and successful employment or entrepreneurship in the agricultural industry. 3. To provide agriculture related programs and activities which will develop pride, responsibility, leadership, character, scholarship, citizenship, patriotism, and thrift, and which will improve the economic, environmental, recreational, and human resources of the community. 4. To encourage and recognize achievement in supervised agricultural experience programs, scholarship, leadership and other individual and group activities by providing awards to deserving members and chapters. ARTICLE II. ORGANIZATION SECTION A. The East Limestone FFA Chapter AL0076 is the local organization of, by, and for students of agriscience education. It shall consist of student members chartered by the Alabama FFA Association. SECTION B. Students of the East Limestone FFA Chapter AL0076 shall be chartered only in this school where recognized systematic instruction in agriscience technology education is offered under the provisions of federal vocational education legislation. This chapter shall operate as an integral part of the instructional program of agriscience education. Schools with large enrollments and/or multiple programs in agriscience education may establish subsidiary chapters of the parent chapter. Each subsidiary chapter shall be organized and operated in accordance with all provisions of the national, state and local

15 FFA Chapter Officer Arsenal 15 constitutions. Subsidiary chapters shall be coordinated by the officers and advisors of the parent chapter. SECTION C. Students enrolled in agriscience education may meet in state convention, adopt a constitution, which shall not conflict with that of the National Organization, elect officers, develop a program of activities, and apply to the National Organization for a state association charter. Upon receipt of a charter from the National Organization, the State Association shall be a part of the National FFA Organization and shall be empowered to charter local chapters. SECTION D. Alumni chapters may be chartered by the State FFA Association through proper channels in accordance with the Alabama FFA Alumni Association, having been approved by the parent chapter and amended in the East Limestone FFA Chapter AL0076 Constitution and Bylaws. Each chartered Alumni chapter may adopt a constitution which shall not conflict with that of the National Organization or the respective State FFA Association, or the Parent Chapter and may elect officers and establish a program of activities. ARTICLE III. PROCEDURE FOR DETERMINING STANDING OF LOCAL CHAPTERS AND MEMBERS SECTION A. A local chapter shall be considered to be in good standing with a State FFA Association when the following conditions are met: 1 All current state and national dues have been paid by February 15 each year. 2. All reports have been submitted as requested by the State FFA Association. 3. Provisions of chapter constitution do not conflict with the State and National FFA Constitutions. Activities are in harmony with the ideals and purposes of the National FFA Organization. 4. The governing body of a State FFA Association shall have the power to suspend local charters upon receipt of evidence of infringement of the provisions of the State or National FFA Constitution and Bylaws. A report on all suspensions shall be presented to the delegates the next succeeding state convention. In case any local chapter is not in good standing, the chapter will be placed on a six month probation and the appropriate school officials notified by the Alabama FFA Executive Secretary. In the event that the chapter does not fulfill the requirements to be in good standing following the probationary period, the charter will automatically be suspended for the school year and participation in any FFA activity above the chapter level will be denied. Chapters having only one FFA advisor will be extended a one year grace period for the year following a change in chapter advisor. In the event of local department of agriscience education is discontinued, its chartered FFA chapter may officially operate for a period not to exceed 36 months from date of discontinuance, provided proper supervision is given by a person having the approval of the local school administrator and the State Advisor. The chapter's charter must be surrendered to the State Advisor at the end of the 36- month period if a local department of agriscience education is not in operation in the school at that time. SECTION B. An active member shall be considered in good standing when:

16 FFA Chapter Officer Arsenal The member shows an interest in the affairs of the Organization by attending meetings, striving for degrees of membership, and participating in other organized activities of the chapter. 2. The member pays all current local, state and national dues. 3. The member displays conduct consistent with the ideals and purposes of the National FFA Organization. ARTICLE IV. MEMBERSHIP SECTION A. Membership in the East Limestone FFA Chapter AL0076 shall be of three kinds: Active, Alumni, and Honorary. SECTION B. Active Membership. To be eligible for active membership in a chartered FFA chapter, a student must be enrolled in an agriscience education program. To retain membership during school, the members must be enrolled in at least one agriscience education course during the school year and/or follow a planned course of study. Either course must include a supervised agricultural experience program, the objective of which is preparation for an agricultural career. Members may retain their active membership until November 30, following the fourth National FFA Convention after graduating from high school. SECTION C. Alumni Membership. Membership shall be open to former active members, collegiate and honorary members, present and former professional agricultural educators, parents of FFA members, and others interested in and supportive of the FFA. SECTION D. Honorary Membership. Farmers, school superintendents, principals, members of boards of education, chapter advisors, teachers, staff members in agriscience education, business people, and others who are helping to advance agriscience education and the FFA, and who have rendered outstanding service, may be elected to honorary membership by a majority vote of the members present at any regular meeting or convention. Honorary membership shall be limited to the Honorary Chapter FFA Degree in the local chapter and the Honorary State FFA Degree in the State Association. ARTICLE V. ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP DEGREES AND PRIVILEGES SECTION A. There shall be five grades of active membership based upon achievements. These grades are: (a) Discovery FFA Degree, (b) Greenhand FFA Degree, (c) Chapter FFA Degree, (d) State FFA Degree and (e) American FFA Degree. SECTION B. The Discovery FFA Degree: On meeting the minimum qualifications as set forth in the National Constitution, the Discovery FFA Degree may be conferred by the chapter. 1. Be enrolled in agricultural education class for at least a portion of the school year while in grades Have become a dues paying member of the FFA at local, state and national levels. 3. Participate in at least one local FFA chapter activity outside of scheduled class time. 4. Have knowledge of agriculturally related career, ownership and entrepreneurial opportunities. 5. Be familiar with the local FFA chapter program of activities. 6. Submit written application for the degree.

The Greenhand FFA Degree: On meeting the minimum qualifications as set forth in the National Constitution, the Greenhand FFA Degree may be conferred by the chapter. 1. Be enrolled in agricultural education and have satisfactory plans for a supervised agricultural experience program. 2. Learn and explain the FFA Creed, motto, salute and FFA Mission Statement. 3. Describe and explain the meaning of the FFA emblem and colors. 4. Demonstrate a knowledge of the FFA Code of Ethics and the proper use of the FFA jacket. 5. Demonstrate a knowledge of the history of the organization, the chapter constitution and bylaws and the chapter Program of Activities. 6. Personally own or have access to the Official FFA Manual and the FFA Student Handbook. 7. Submit written application for the Greenhand FFA Degree. SECTION D. Chapter FFA Degree: On meeting the minimum qualifications as set forth in the National Constitution, the Chapter FFA Degree may be conferred by the chapter. 1. Must have received the Greenhand FFA Degree. 2. Must have satisfactorily completed the equivalent of at least 180 hours of systematic school instruction in agricultural education at or above the ninth grade level, have in operation an approved supervised agricultural experience program and be enrolled in an agricultural education course. 3. Have participated in the planning and conducting of at least three official functions in the chapter Program of Activities. 4. Have earned and productively invested at least $150 by the member s own efforts or worked at least forty-five hours in excess of scheduled class time or a combination thereof and have developed plans for continued growth and improvement in a supervised agricultural experience program. The following amendment will replace Section D item 4 effective January 1, A student after entering agricultural education must have: a. earned and productively invested at least $150 by the member s own efforts; or b. worked at least 45 hours in excess of scheduled class time; or c. a combination there of and have developed plans for continued growth and improvement in a supervised agricultural experience program. 5. Have effectively led a group discussion for 15 minutes. 6. Have demonstrated five procedures of parliamentary law. 7. Show progress toward individual achievement in the FFA award programs. 8. Have a satisfactory scholastic record. 9. Have participated in at least 10 hours of community service activities. These hours are in addition to and cannot be duplicated as paid or unpaid SAE hours. (Effective January 1, 2011) 10. Submit a written application for the Chapter FFA Degree. Other requirements may be established by the chapter and/or the state FFA association. SECTION E. State FFA Degree: On meeting the minimum qualifications as set forth in the National Constitution, the State FFA Degree may be conferred by the State Association. 1. Have received the Chapter FFA Degree.

While in school, have completed the equivalent of at least two years (360 hours) of systematic school instruction in agricultural education at or above the ninth grade level, which includes a supervised agricultural experience program. 4. A student after entering agricultural education must have: a. earned and productively invested at least $1000; or b. worked at least 300 hours in excess of scheduled class time; or c. a combination there of, in a supervised agricultural experience program. 5. Demonstrate leadership ability by: a. Performing 10 procedures of parliamentary law. b. Giving a six-minute speech on a topic relating to agriculture or the FFA. c. Serving as an officer, commit-tee chairperson or participating member of a chapter committee. 6. Have a satisfactory scholastic record as certified by the local agricultural education instructor and the principal or superintendent. 7. Have participated in the planning and completion of the chapter Program of Activities. 8 Ratified 1/27/ Have participated in at least five different FFA activities above the chapter level. 9. Have participated in at least 25 hours of community service, within at least 2 different community service activities. These hours are in addition to and cannot be duplicated as paid or unpaid SAE hours. The percentage of the total state membership which may receive the State FFA Degree and other requirements may be established by the state FFA association. Written records of achievement of all requirements, verified by the chapter FFA advisor, shall be submitted to the state association at least one month prior to the state FFA convention at which the State FFA Degree is to be received. The state advisor shall provide for review of the records and submit a recommendation to the state association governing body, which shall nominate at the state FFA convention the candidates who have been found worthy to receive the honor. The State FFA Degree will be conferred upon the candidates subject to approval by the delegates at the state convention. SECTION F. American FFA Degree: On meeting the minimum qualifications as set forth in the National Constitution, the American FFA Degree may be conferred by the National Organization. 1. Have received the State FFA Degree, have been an active member for the past three years (36 months) and have a record of satisfactory participation in the activities on the chapter and state levels. 2. Have satisfactorily completed the equivalent of at least three years (540 hours) of systematic secondary school instruction in an agricultural education program or to have completed at least the equivalent of 360 hours of systematic secondary school instruction in agricultural education and one full

19 FFA Chapter Officer Arsenal 19 year of enrollment in a postsecondary agricultural program or have completed the program of agricultural education offered in the secondary school last attended. 3. Have graduated from high school at least 12 months prior to the national convention at which the degree is to be granted. 4. Have in operation and have maintained records to substantiate an outstanding supervised agricultural experience program through which a member has exhibited comprehensive planning, managerial and financial expertise. 5. Have earned and productively invested at least $7,500 or have earned and productively invested at least $1,500 and worked 2,250 hours in excess of scheduled class time. Any combination of hours times a factor of 3.33 plus dollars must be equal to or greater than the number 9,000. Hours used for the purpose of producing earnings reported as productively invested income shall not be duplicated as hours of credit to meet the minimum requirements for the degree. The following amendment will replace Section F item 5 effective January 1, Those members applying for their American Degree after January 1, 2015 must meet this requirement. 5. A student after entering agricultural education must have: a. earned at least $10, and productively invested at least $7,500.00; or b. earned and productively invested $2, and worked 2,250 hours in excess of scheduled class time. Any combination of hours, times a factor of 3.56, plus actual dollars earned and productively invested must be equal to or greater than the number 10,000. Hours used for the purpose of producing earnings reported as productively invested income shall not be duplicated as hours of credit to meet the minimum requirements for the degree. 6. Have a record of outstanding leadership abilities and community involvement and have achieved a high school scholastic record of C or better as certified by the principal or superintendent. 7. Have participated in at least 50 hours of community service, within at least 3 different community service activities. These hours are in addition to and cannot be duplicated as paid or unpaid SAE hours. (Effective January 1, 2011) ARTICLE VI. EMBLEM SECTION A. The official emblem of the National FFA Organization shall include five symbols, namely: (1) the plow, representing labor and tillage of the soil; (2) the owl, representing wisdom; (3) the rising sun, representing progress; (4) a cross-section of an ear of corn, representing common agricultural interests; and (5) an American eagle surmounting the cross-section of an ear of corn, representing the national scope of the organization. The emblem shall also carry the three letters "FFA" and the words "Agricultural Education." SECTION B. The emblem shall be uniform in all chapters throughout the State Association. All members shall be entitled to display the emblem.

"Greenhand FFA Degree" recipients shall be entitled to wear the official bronze emblem pin; "Chapter FFA Degree" recipients shall be entitled to wear the official silver emblem pin; and "State FFA Degree" recipients shall be entitled to wear the official gold emblem charm. SECTION D. "Honorary Chapter FFA Degree" recipients shall be entitled to wear either the official silver or gold emblem pin. "Honorary State FFA Degree" recipients shall be entitled to wear the official gold emblem charm. SECTION E. Collegiate FFA chapter members and FFA advisors shall be entitled to wear the official gold owl pin. ARTICLE VII. CHAPTER OFFICERS SECTION A. The offices of an FFA chapter shall be: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Reporter, Sentinel, and Chaplin. The teacher(s) of agriscience education shall be the FFA advisor(s). Chapter officers shall be elected annually or semi-annually by the members present at any regular meeting of the chapter. SECTION B. Only members who have attained the Chapter FFA Degree are eligible to hold Chapter offices. SECTION C. Only members who are still in high school and enrolled in agriscience education may be elected Chapter officers. ARTICLE VIII. DUTIES OF CHAPTER OFFICERS SECTION A. The President. It shall be the duty of the President to preside over the East Limestone FFA Meetings. The President shall call one meeting each month on such date and at such place as shall be fixed by the current officer team and advisor. The President shall appoint all committees and may serve as an ex-officio member of these committees. SECTION B. The Vice President. It shall be the duty of the Vice President to assist the President in any way that he/she can. In case the office of President becomes vacant by resignation or otherwise, the Vice President shall assume his/her duties. The Vice President shall perform such other duties as directed to perform by the Chapter Advisor. SECTION C. The Secretary. The Secretary shall perform the duties common to that office, such as keeping an accurate record of all meetings, banquets, officer meetings, official ceremonies, etc. of the East Limestone FFA Chapter. The Secretary shall perform such other duties as directed to perform by the Chapter Advisor. SECTION D. The Treasurer. The Treasurer, assisted by the Chapter Advisor, shall be responsible for the custody of all funds and other assets of the organization. They shall keep correct and complete books and records of accounts concerning all financial transactions of the organization. The Treasurer shall perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the Chapter Advisor.

21 FFA Chapter Officer Arsenal 21 SECTION E. The Reporter. The Reporter shall perform the duties common to that office, such as preparing news stories pertaining to activities of the organization. The reporter shall perform such other duties as directed by the Chapter Advisor. SECTION F. The Sentinel. The Sentinel shall perform the duties common to that office, such as setting up meeting room, caring for paraphernalia and equipment, and other duties as may be prescribed by the Chapter Advisor. SECTION G. The Advisor. The Advisor is an ex-officio member of all committees. It is his duty to advise the Chapter, and other committees on matters of policy and assist the chapter officers in conducting meetings and carrying out programs. The Advisor reviews all applications for the State FFA Degree and submits them to the State Executive Committee with his recommendations. SECTION H. The Student Advisor. The Student Advisor (immediate past chapter president) will serve as a student leader to advise current State Officers as the need arises. They will serve as an ex-officio member of any committee suggested by the President. The Student Advisor shall perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the Chapter Advisor. ARTICLE IX. PROCEDURE FOR ELECTING STATE OFFICERS A Nominating Committee consisting of 2 FFA members not applying for a chapter Office now, or in the future (one representing each 7-8 grade the other 9-12), 1 Past Chapter Officer, and 2 East Limestone Faculty members, none representing the same teaching area, appointed by the current chapter president, officer team and chapter advisor, who shall study and review the qualifications of members who are candidates for chapter office. An advisor will serve as committee chairman to oversee the process. All candidates under consideration shall be given a personal interview either by the Nominating Committee or by a subcommittee. The Nominating Committee shall nominate two individuals for each office and report during the October chapter meeting. In the event that only one candidate moves through the nomination process and meets all requirements let it be known the Nominating committee may instate that nominee without an election. Chapter officers shall be elected to serve from October 1 to September 30 of each year. SECTION A. Qualifications for East Limestone FFA Chapter office. 1. Student must meet the standards of an active member as fore mentioned in Article III section B, as well as Article IV section B 2. Student must have and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher while enrolled at East Limestone. 3. Student must be nominated, in writing, by an active chapter FFA officer in good standing, serving a current term. Nominations will be excepted until the first official chapter meeting of the year (September) 4. Student must have attained the Chapter FFA degree (see Article V section D) to be nominated. 5. Nominated students will be required to complete a competency exam regarding general FFA knowledge. This exam shall be 25 multiple choice questions, nominee must achieve a score 85% or higher to qualify for nomination.

22 FFA Chapter Officer Arsenal All nominees under consideration shall be given a personal interview, by the Nominating committee (see opening statement for Article IX) 7. A student may only pursue one office each year and may not run for two offices for the same term. 8. Nominees who are elected must complete one of the following requirements during their term of service. a. Participate in one Career Development Event b. Be actively pursuing election for district or state office January Attend ALL East Limestone FFA Chapter Functions with the exceptions mentioned in Article IX section C.3. SECTION B. Election of East Limestone FFA Chapter Officers 1. The East Limestone FFA Chapter Officer Team shall consist of not more than seven officers, not doubling any office at any time. (Example: Their will not be two vice-presidents serving during one term.) 2. The Nominating Committee shall put forth the names of two nominees who have met the qualifications mentioned in Article IX. 3. Upon the First meeting of the fiscal year (Chapter meeting for October, active members in good standing will cast a secret ballot vote for each office with the names of the nominees put forth by the Nominating Committee. 4. In the event that a nominee meet the qualifications of the office sought, having the approval of the Nominating Committee, and run unopposed can accept the Chapter office without vote based on the recommendation of the nominating committee. SECTION C. Chapter officer early termination or removal from office 1. To remove a current sitting officer the active members in good standing, having the issue on the agenda of the next immediate monthly meeting must vote by secret ballot on the removal of the chapter officer in question. The vote must carry by 2/3 majority of the active members in good standing. 2. Students recommended for removal from office will have the opportunity to plead their case to the chapter at the fore mentioned meeting. Followed by the impeachment vote. 3. Students may be recommended for removal by the following individuals Chapter advisor, Student Government Association, the School Administration, a chapter officer in good standing. 4. The following items constitute removal from East Limestone FFA Chapter office a. Recommendation of removal from one or more of the individuals mentioned in Article IX section C.3. b. Failure to meet the obligations fore mentioned in Articles III, IV, VII, VIII, and Article IX Section A, c. The Chapter advisor sees fit under this document or out of respect for the purposes, morals, and values set forth by the National FFA and all parties under it to remove a sitting officer on moral grounds without the consent of the voting active members in good standing. SECTION D. Exception to Article IX section A.9 1. Current sitting officers in good standing may forgo their duties twice with notification before the event to be missed for family emergencies, sporting events, and/or any other activities which may cause absence from a chapter function. After two absences

23 FFA Chapter Officer Arsenal 23 the student may be recommended for removal from office or may choose to step down upon submitting a resignation in writing. SECTION E. Appointments to vacant chapter offices 1. The advisor or the nominating committee may nominate an interim active member in good standing to fill the vacant office until the nominating committee may seek a replacement for the vacant office. ARTICLE X. ADVISORY COUNCIL SECTION A. The Chapter FFA Advisory Council shall be composed of no more than eight local advisors from various agricultural areas which accurately represents the community. Members will be nominated by the local advisors of that chapter. Length of term shall be three years with not more than three expiring in any one year. No member shall succeed himself after serving a full term. SECTION B. Purposes. 1. To provide a clearing house for ideas relative to FFA polices and practices and to advise the Chapter Advisors in such matters. 2. To study and make recommendations on matters referred to the Council by the Chapter Advisor. 3. To function as an advisory, rather than an executive body. ARTICLE XI. MEETINGS AND BANQUETS SECTION A. A Chapter FFA Meeting shall be held annually, except in case of an extreme emergency by the Chapter officers or Chapter advisor. The purpose of the Chapter meeting will be to conduct the business of the chapter and to recognize outstanding achievements of FFA members. The time and place of meetings shall be determined by the Chapter officers and the Chapter Advisor at the beginning of each fiscal year. SECTION B. The East Limestone FFA Chapter shall determine the delegate to the state convention. SECTION C. Local chapters shall hold their meetings monthly or more often throughout the calendar year and at a time and place to be determined by the local chapter. SECTION D. All Chapter and State FFA Degree Candidates and award recipients shall wear the official dress while conducting official business during the State FFA Convention. ARTICLE XII. COMMITTEES The president of the East Limestone FFA Chapter shall appoint all committees. The student advisor is an ex-officio member of all committees. Only such committees as are needed to carry on the work of the association shall be appointed. ARTICLE XIII. DUES SECTION A. Annual membership dues in the State FFA Association shall be fixed by a majority vote of the delegates present at the State FFA Convention. The Executive Committee
