The Vice Chair opened the meeting with a salute to the flag and a moment of silence. NECROLOGY 1. Ronald Thomas retired teacher on October 10, Mary R. Bemis retired Guidance Counselor on October 13, Palmina A. Barry retired clerk on October 26, Richard W. Barnard former custodian on October 27, Walter W. Mahoney retired teacher on October 29, 2017 MINUTES 1. Sixteenth Regular meeting on October 26, 2017 Mr. Nicholson made a motion to approve the above-listed minutes. Seconded. Motion passed on a unanimous voice vote. APPOINTMENTS / ELECTIONS 1. Debra Ruggiero Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction effective January 2, Kathleen Torosian Coordinated Family and Community Engagement Grant Program effective November 13, 2017

LEHS MCJROTC 2017 Northeast All Service Drill Team Champions SgtMaj Ken Oswald introduced the cadets. Vice Chair Capano and Superintendent Latham congratulated the students on their success and presented each with a Certificate of Achievement. Ratification of votes taken in the Buildings and Grounds Sub-Committee Use of Marshall Middle School as Emergency Shelter made a motion to ratify the vote made at the Building & Grounds Sub-Committee meeting of November 9, 2017 to allow the Marshall Middle School to be used as an Emergency Shelter. Ratification of votes taken in the Athletic Sub-Committee Girl s Lacrosse No votes were taken. COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION 1. Superintendent s Report Pickering Technology Lab Postings of two elementary school principal positions Twenty-eight students have recently arrived from Puerto Rico. LEHS JROTC recognition GE jet engine delivered to LVTI Marine Corps Birthday celebration to be held at LEHS A motion from the floor was made to adjourn at 7:35 p.m. Seconded. 4 LYNN PUBLIC SCHOOLS James Leo McGuinness Administration Building 100 Bennett Street Lynn, Massachusetts Building and Grounds Sub-Committee Meeting and a Committee of the Whole Meeting Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 6:15 p.m. Members present:, Chair Student Advisor: Lucia Gonzalez, LVTI Observing: Ms. Capano, Ms. Carrasco and Mr. Nicholson In Attendance: Dr. Latham, Superintendent Dr. Tutwiler, Deputy Superintendent Ms. Powers, Deputy Superintendent Mr. McHugh, School Business Administrator Mr. Iarrobino, Secretary of the School Committee Attorney Mihos presided Item 1: Request to use Marshall Middle School as an Emergency Shelter Lynn Fire Department, LT Paul Ricchi, Emergency Management Director, City of Lynn requested the Marshall Middle School be designated an Emergency Shelter. The only other official shelter in the City is located at Lynn Classical High School. He noted that the East Lynn location at Marshall Middle School is ideal. LT Ricchi noted that, if approved, the Inspectional Services Department will review the site. made a motion to recommend using Marshall Middle School as an Emergency Shelter to the full Committee. Seconded. Roll Call Vote

6 LYNN PUBLIC SCHOOLS James Leo McGuinness Administration Building 100 Bennett Street Lynn, Massachusetts Athletic Sub-Committee Meeting and a Committee of the Whole Meeting Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. Members present: Mr. Nicholson, Chair Ms. Carrasco Observing: Ms. Capano In Attendance: Dr. Latham, Superintendent Dr. Tutwiler, Deputy Superintendent Ms. Powers, Deputy Superintendent Mr. McHugh, School Business Administrator Attorney Mihos Mr. Iarrobino, Secretary of the School Committee Student Advisor: Lucia Gonzalez, LVTI Chairman Nicholson presided. Item 1: Girl s Lacrosse Discussion ensued regarding the results of a survey that was taken to see if it would be feasible to field a high school team. The high school Athletic Directors, Mr. Devin, Mr. Newton, and Mr. Skeadas answered questions from Committee members regarding the results of the survey. It was noted that a feeder program is utilized by many sports, i.e. volleyball. suggested starting a program at the elementary school level. Mr. Nicholson suggested offering clinics in the spring and noted that Lisa Nerich, Lynn Parks and Recreation Department may be able to help develop interest in Girl s Lacrosse. No vote was taken.
