Smith, First Baptist Church, Roanoke, Virginia, offered the following prayer: Lord we thank You for Your many blessings and abundant mercies we have received. We praise Your name and confess that You still govern in the affairs of men today. Once again we come asking for Your hand of favor to abide upon this assembly. Forgive us for our sins and give to our Senate the blessings of faith, wisdom, discernment and humility as they seek direction for the affairs of our Commonwealth and may their decisions be in accordance with Your will. With grateful hearts and in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ we pray. Amen. The Chair stated further that the Senate s passage of broader legislation did not preclude the Senate s passage of more restrictive legislation on the same subject.
