Stanley Wright, Jr., Pastor, Calvary United Methodist Church, Richmond, Virginia, offered the following prayer: Gracious God, we thank You and give praise to You this day, for Your continual blessings being poured out upon us as a State. We thank You too for the leadership represented here today that through Your wisdom You have provided for us. May Virginians be in much prayer for these who have the awesome responsibility of leading us into this New Millennium. We would ask You now that You forgive us as a State for the times when we have been less than faithful to the gifts and talents You have so richly blessed us with. Grant Your grace and wisdom to continue to direct this body, that peace, honor, and justice may go forth from this place. We ask for Your healing to be upon those who need Your divine touch and we ask that Your same healing power would minister to all Virginians, bringing us together in Your will and purpose. We pray for strength for Governor Gilmore and for all representatives here. May Your love and grace preserve us as we ask this prayer in Your Holy Name. Amen.
