2 - 2 - THE TEXT OF THE GENERAL AGREEMENT ON TARIFFS AND TRADE (GATT) The text of the GATT was originally published by the United Nations in 1947 as the first of four volumes, the other three containing the Schedules of the Geneva tariff concessions. These volumes are available in English or French from United Nations Sales Agents, $5.00 the set. Since that time the text of the Agreement has been revised in part, by means of protocols. The up-to-date text of the GATT, containing all revisions, is published by the GATT secretariat in Basic Instruments and Selected Documents of the Contracting Parties, Volume I. See page 6 of this Checklist. The text of the GATT as amended to January 1950, is also available in English from the U.S. Department of State: The General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (Amended Text) and Texts of Related Documents. 3 - 3 - THE GENEVA, ANNECY AND TORQUAY SCHEDULES: THE CONSOLIDATED SCHEDULES The Schedules to the GATT record the bound rates of customs duties resulting from the concessions negotiated by the Governments, which are now contracting parties to the GATT, at the Geneva (1947), Annecy (1949) and Torquay ( ) tariff conferences. The three sets of schedules resulting from these conferences, which are annexed to the Agreement and to the Annecy and Torquay Protocols, together with the rectifications and modifications which have been made effective through Various protocols, up to and including those agreed at the Sixth Session; have been consolidated in a single text, namely The Consolidated Schedules of Tariff Concessions. The Consolidated Schedules of Tariff Concessions were published by the Contracting Parties in January 1952, There are 5 volumes, obtainable from United Nations Sales Agents, Price: $15.00 per set of 5 volumes, English or French. The Schedules of the tariff concessions negotiated at Geneva in 1947 and incorporated in the Agreement are contained in Volumes II, III and IV of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade published by the United Nations in 1947, as stated on page 2, English or French, Price: $5.00. ( ), The Annecy Schedules of Tariff Concessions and the Annecy Protocol of Terms of Accession are contained in a similar volume published by ICIT0 in 1949, and obtainable from United Nations Sales Agents, Price: $1,50, English or French. 4 - 4 - REPORTS ON THE DEVELOPMENT AMD OPERATION OF THE GATT The following publications provide accounts of the work of the Contracting Parties to the GATT and place the operation of the GATT in the general perspective of world irade; all are available in English or French, and are obtainable from the secretariat or through United Nations Sales Agents. The Attack:on Trade Barriers: A progress report on the operation of the GATT from January 1948 to August pages. September Price: $0.15. (GATT/1949-2). International Trade, 1952:- The first of a series of annual reports which presents the work of the" Contracting Parties against a comprehensive account of the main developments in international trade from 1948 to 1952, with extensive ( r statistical material.- Part One analyzes the structure of world trade in recent years. Part Two reviews the main developments in governmental action - tariffs, quota restrictions, subsidies and so forth, affecting the movement of world trade. It also contains the Rules of Procedure for Sessions of the Contracting Parties (including procedures for intersessional meetings), Procedures for Tariff Negotiations, and lxsts of all the Protocols and the signatories thereto. Volume II contains selected Decisions, Declarations, Resolutions, Rulings and Reports of the Contracting Parties, as well as Reports of Working Parties 0

The First Supplement, published in March 1953, contains important Decisions, Resolutions, Recommendations and Working Party Reports which were adopted by the Contracting Parties between May and October The Second Supplement, published in January 1954, contains similar material for the period November 1952 to December Both Supplements are obtainable in English or French. DOCUMENTS ISSUED ON BEHALF OF TEE CONTRACTING PARTIES Most of the documents issued during the Sessions of the Contracting Parties are derestricted a certain time after the end of each Session. Other documents pertaining to no particular Session or Issued between Sessions are also derestricted from time to time. The derestricted documents may be consulted at the headquarters of the GATT secretariat, Geneva, or at the United Nations Reference Library, New York. (^mong the documents which are not derestricted are all summary records and working papers.) The Decisions, Declarations and Resolutions of the Contracting Parties at their Sessions are usually derestricted at the close of each Session. ALL the Decisions, Declarations and Resolutions of the first eight Sessions have been derestricted. In respect of each Session, a mimeographed paper setting out the Decisions, etc., taken at that Session is available on request from the secretariat. The Decisions, etc., from the First to the Sixth Sessions inclusive, are reproduced in Basic Instruments and Selected Documents, Volume II (see previous page); the Decisions taken at the Seventh Session are reproduced in the First Supplement, and those taken at the Eighth Session in the Second Supplement.
8 - 8 - THE INTERNATIONAL TRADE NEWS BULLETIN The International Trade News Bulletin is published monthly by the secretariat of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade and is obtainable on a subscription basis. The Trade News Bulletin is primarily a record of news reports on items related to the operation of the General Agreement. The Bulletin provides information concerning developments in commercial policy on a world-wide basis. It lists changes in customs tariffs, import duties and export duties and quantitative controls on imports and exports. The Bulletin also lists new trade agreements and other intergovernmental trade arrangements, for which a separate index is issued. An index to the Bulletin (excluding trade agreements) is issued annually. Persons or organizations wishing to obtain the Bulletin should request a specimen copy (English or French) and subscription form from the Gatt secretariat, Villa le Chêne, Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland. The cost of subscribing for one year post free is 12 Swiss francs (or 3 dollars U.S., or 1 pound sterling, whichever is convenient). The extra cost of airmail postage to countries outside Europe will be quoted on request.
