No. organization Address Functions Duties 1 The Uttar Kannada District Disputes Redressal Forum, Karwar M.G.Road, Old AC Office compound, Karwar, Uttar Kannada The District Disputes Redressal Forum, KARWAR, of Karnataka Disputes Redressal State Commission and District Forum Services is functioning from 1992 under chapter III of the Protection Act The main object and duty of the Forum is to redress the consumer grievances within stipulated period and without following any lengthy procedure.

2 2 CHAPTER.2 The Powers and Duties of its officers and employees (Section 4(lXb)(ii)) The powers and duties of the President, Members, Officers and employees of the District disputes Redressal Forum, KARWAR as per the Act and work distribution order issued by the State Commission are as follows:- s1. No. office / employee 1 The Uttar Kannada District Disputes Redressal Forum, Karwar Post Hon'lcle President Powers A person who is, or has been or is qualified to be a District Judge, who shall be the President of the District Forum under Section 10 (1) (a) of the C.P.Act Duties The President of the District Forum shal1 discharge the quasijudicial work under section 11, t2,i3,14 25 & 27 of the Protection Act, The President of the District Forum shall exercise the financial powers vested to the Division leve1 officers. The post of the President is tenure post for period of 5 years from the date of appointment or up to the age of 65 years whichever is earlier. 2 Member TWo Members one of whom shall be woman who shall be appointed as per section (10) (1) (b) of the C.P. Act. The members of the District Forum shal1 discharge the quasi judicial work along with the President of the District Forum, under sec.11, 12, 13, &,27 of the C.P. Act.

3 3 The posts of the members are tenure posts for period of 5 years from the date of appoint or up to the age of 65 yea.rs whichever is earlier. J Asst. Registrar - cum-asst. Admin. officer One post The Asst. Registrar cum Asst. Admin. Officer is to discharge the duties of drawing and Disbursing officer. The Asst. Registrar cum Asst. Admin. Officer is to carry out the direction issued by the President as well as the District Forum Bench. 4 Sheristedar One post Sheristedar is nothing but Manager of the office. The Sheristedar shall discharge the work of over all supervision on Accounts, Filing, 5 First Division Asst. One post Disposal, preparing statements, pay bills and other work entrusted by the President of the District Forum and Asst. Registrar cum Asst. Admin. Officer of the Forum. The First Division assistant sha-ll discharge the duties of the Bench clerk, pending clerk and any other work entrusted by the District Forum.

4 4 6 Second Division Asst. 7 Stenographers One Post The Second Division Asst. shal1 discharge the duties of Inward and Outward, Indexing of the disposed of files, record keeper, librarian and any other work entrusted by the District Forum. Two posts The stenographers shall discharge the duties of taking dictation of Judgments at Court hall and chambers of the President and Members of the District Forum. Transcription work through computer, recording deposition at Court hall through computer and any other work entrusted by the President, Members, Asst. Registrar cum Asst. Admin. Officer. 8 Driver One post The driver shall drive the vehicle and any work entrusted by the District Forum (if any) 9 Peon Three posts One Peon is attached to the President of the District forum and court hall. One Peon is attached to the Office of the District Forum. One Peon is to do the work of night watchman or any other work entrusted by the Forum.

5 5 CHAFTER.3 Procedure followed in decision making process (Section 4(lXb[iii)) Activity The main object and duty of the District Forum is to redress the consumers grievances free of cost Desc ripti on Decision Making Process The District Disputes Redressal Forum, KARWAR, of Karnataka Disputes Redressal State Commission and District Forum Services is constituted under the (Central Act No.68 of 1986) Protection Act, 1986 to redress the grievances of the consumers and following the procedures laid down in the consumer Protection Act, 1986 under section ll, L2, 13, 14, 25 & 27 of C.P. Act Designation of final decision authority There is one Bench presided over by Honble President and Members The Hon'ble President has the overall administrative control of the District Forum service

The Norms for discharge of the functions of the District Forum are available in the consumer Protection Act and Protection Regulations and Karnataka Protection Rules Reference document prescribing the norrns (Citizen's Charter, Service Chapter etc.,) The consumer Protection Act and Protection Regulations framed by the National Disputes Redressal Commission and Karnataka Protection Rules
