4 Biographical Information Abram Eisenman ( ) was born in Savannah, Georgia, on February 4, He graduated form Savannah High School and attended the university of Georgia, where he won a freshman letter in basketball and a Debating Key. From , he worked at various odd jobs in Savannah and New York. He began a 32-year career in radio broadcasting in 1939, working for stations in Columbia, South Carolina, Patterson, New Jersey, and New York City. Returning to savannah in 1950, Eisenman worked for WJIV (now WEAS) until From 1960 until 1970, he was the sales manager of WSOK and the general manager until From 1953 through 1963 he also published The Weekly Savannah Sun in his own printing plant. Eisenman ran for political office many times. He was a presidential candidate in 1968, 1972, and 1976, a candidate for the Georgia House of Representatives, District 122 in 1974, and the Georgia Senate, First District in Eisenman was an avid tennis fan, player, and instructor and the 1970 Senior Men's Tennis Champion of Savannah. Among his most cherished accomplishments was a lecture at Harvard in 1961 and a speech at Dartmouth College in Eisenman was married to Georgia Russell and they had two sons, Russell and Robert. Eisenman died on June 26, Scope and Content Note This collection consists primarily of the political writings of Abram Eisenman. These include book manuscripts, copies of Why I Should Be President, volume 1, galleys of Why I Should Be President, volume 2, and a manuscript of Why I Should Be President, volume 3, materials from the 1968, 1972, and 1976 Presidential campaigns, the 1974 Georgia House of Representatives campaign, and the 1980 Georgia Senate campaign, correspondence with various political and media figures, news releases, book reviews, political essays, and numerous newspaper clippings and magazine articles on political issues. The collection also contains short stories, novels and poetry written by Abram Eisenman. The collection covers the years , although some of the novels and short stories may have been written earlier. Boxes 1-3 contain clippings, news releases, and political writings from , also some undated material. Box 4 contains information written and collected by Mr. Eisenman on the major 1976 and 1980 Presidential candidates, also a manuscript of a book, The Great Debate Over Carter's Energy Proposals. Box 5 contains miscellaneous reference materials and newspaper clippings used by Eisenman in his research. Box 6 contains correspondence arranged in chronological order. Box 7 contains copies of Why I Should Be President, volume 1 and galley proofs of Why I Should Be President, volume 2. Box 8 contains a manuscript copy of Why I Should Be President, volume 3. Box 9 contains a manuscript of a book, The World Connection. Box 10 contains a manuscript of a book, Southern Manna, poetry, and book reviews which are arranged in alphabetical order.
