POWER IN OUR VOICES: DELTA, WE ARE THE CHANGE National Social Action Commission Shavon Arline-Bradley, Co-Chair & Rhonda Briggins, Co-Chair Rev. Dr. Gwendolyn E. Boyd, Chair Emeritus Hon. Alexis M. Herman, Honorary Chair Black women are the largest voting block in America. When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful. Malala Yousafzai There were over 1200 Sorors registered for Delta Days including over 200 collegiates. In times of crisis, the wise build bridges and the fools build barriers. The Charge Rev. Dr. Gwendolyn E. Boyd, 22 nd National President There is no other African American organization coming to the capital consistently other than the NAACP. We are the change! Our first symbol represents change. We can t settle for doing what s safe. What s happening in our communities can t become the new normal. Be strong and courageous. Before you open your mouth, know what you are talking about. Be consistent Show up for everything. City Council meetings, School board meetings, etc. If you don t show up, they take you for granted. Run for office. Register and vote Get them to vote!
2 What is the Delta Teacher Efficacy Campaign (DTEC)? The Delta Teacher Efficacy Campaign (DTEC) will support teachers who will enhance the educational opportunities for underserved students. The framework of the Delta Research Educational Foundation (DREF) is supported by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (DST) and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and consists of a three pronged approach: (1) training for teachers, (2) conducting advocacy sessions for communities, (3) publishing scholarly research on teacher efficacy and student achievement. Education is a heart matter! Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all. Local Chapter Action - Laws cannot change (discrimination) - Policies and procedures - Inclusion - Discipline reform look into the causes of disciplinary actions - Lobby so they know our positions - DTEC & TAG amplify the message dtecteacheracademy.com - Educate & inform our families - Hold the district accountable - Fiscal management - Effective classroom management - Parental involvement

We must have a massive non-violent, direct fusion action put a face on the statistics. 2. We must have massive voter registration and mobilization. 3. We must organize and build power from the bottom up.
6 Health Care 115th Congress, Second Session Federal Legislative Priorities The Red Army: The Delta Milaje Require insurers to cover pre-existing conditions Expand Medicaid Resist attacks on reproductive rights Fully fund Office of Minority Health Comprehensive Immigration Reform Enact comprehensive immigration reform that treats immigrants fairly and preserves families Enact federal policy that recognizes the extensive contributions that immigrants make to the American culture and economy Oppose use of taxes or public funds to build a wall across the US southern border Sensible Gun Violence Prevention Measures Require universal background checks, close the private sale loophole, and ban civilian ownership of assault/military type weapons Appropriate funding to study the causes and cures of gun violence, including economic deprivation, gun safety education, mental illness and entertainment that glorifies gratuitous violence Raise the age of gun purchase to twenty-one 2020 Census Assure a complete and accurate count Provide adequate resources to meet the Constitutional mandate of a complete and accurate census Resist partisan influence on the U.S. Census Criminal Justice Reform Reform sentencing to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities. Enact comprehensive reintegration strategies to interrupt the costly cycle of recidivism Enact Incentives to promote fair policing and end excessive use of force Gender Pay Equity Require federal contractors to eliminate gender disparities in compensation
7 Family Leave Assure a minimum level of paid family leave, without pre-empting state/local protections Voting Rights Outlaw partisan gerrymandering Enforce laws against racial gerrymandering and other practices and procedures that inhibit the right to vote Restore Section V pre-clearance under the Voting Rights Act Restore the right to vote for people with prior felony convictions
