3 How we view the Me#s Na#on A changing Canadian landscape: Based on Supreme Court rulings over the past few decades, there is an understanding and behaviour gap at all levels of government as well as private sector in their legal obliga#on to work with the Me#s Na#on. 4 How we view the Me#s Na#on The Supreme Court decisions support the following outcomes: 1. Me#s Na#on, First Na#on and Inuit are considered Indians under Sec#on 91 (24) of the Cons#tu#on Act of 1867; and 2. Governments and businesses have a fiduciary duty to treat Me#s Na#on members equally. In 2011, 451,795 people iden*fied as Mé*s. They represented 32.3% of the total Aboriginal popula*on and 1.4% of the total Canadian popula*on.
