5 Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport announced on 21 June 15 commitment to a Cultural Protection Fund of 30 million. Stated commitment to ratify 1954 Hague Convention and accede to its two protocols provide training to local professionals in conserving cultural assets, and support programmes using cultural heritage to help local and national economies through rebuilding heritage and fostering opportunities for tourism, research and employment. 6 DCMS announced: The British Museum s Iraqi Heritage Emergency Management Programme is the first programme of the Cultural Protection Fund (28th October 2015). A consultation to determine the shape and scope of the Fund which announced the partnership with the British Council and the expectation that the British Council would manage the Fund.

9 The Fund /about/cultural-protection-fund Official Development Assistance - projects administered with the promotion of the economic development and welfare of developing countries as its main objective Objective - To help to create opportunities for economic and social development through building capacity to foster, safeguard and promote cultural heritage in conflict-affected regions overseas

11 Outcome 1 - Cultural Protection Cultural heritage under threat is researched, documented, conserved and/or restored to safeguard against permanent loss. Cultural heritage will be in better condition and/or protected against physical damage or destruction Cultural heritage will be better managed Cultural heritage will be better identified and/or recorded
12 Outcome 2 - Training and Capacity building Local professionals have sufficient business or specialist skills to be able to manage and promote cultural assets which [will] benefit the local economy. Local staff and/or volunteers will have developed skills The cultural heritage workforce will be more diverse
13 Outcome 3 - Advocacy & Education Local people are identify and value their cultural heritage and have a good understanding of how to protect it and the role it plays in society and the economy.
