2 M. PHIL - POILITICAL SCIENCE Instructions: The M. Phil. course in Political Science operates within the overall framework laid down by the ordinary governing M. Phil. Programme in the University. The students are required to offer three written papers and one dissertation (Equivalent to one paper). Every Theory paper shall carry 100 marks. Each written paper shall consist of ten questions. Candidates will be required to attempt any five questions. The dissertation shall also consist of 100 marks and will be on a subject related to candidate's major field of study. It will include the statement of the problem, overview of literature, methodology, chapter scheme and bibliography. The dissertation may be based on either primary data or secondary data or on a problem for which some solution will be projected or on the application of some methodology for purpose of testing hypothesis or on relevance to political thought. Dissertation will be examined by two external examiners and shall carry 100 marks. The papers offered are given below: Paper I : (Compulsory Paper) Political analysis & Research methodology The candidate will be required to offer any two papers of post M.A. level of any of the following groups: Group-A : Political Theory Group Paper I - Contemporary Political Theory Paper II - Political Thought in India Paper III - Political Sociology Group-B : Indian Government and Politics Paper I - Parliamentary System in India Paper II - Federalism in India Paper III - State Politics in India Group-C : Public Administration Paper I - Bureaucracy and Policy Making in India Paper II - District Administration and Local Politics in India Paper III - Social Change & Administration of Law & Order in India
3 Dissertation (Compulsory) Note: Each candidate shall offer dissertation on the subject of his specialization. The candidate shall submit to the University four typed copies of dissertation.
