Congressmen Hear Testimony from Prince William Voters who Waited in Long Lines on Election Day Potomac Local on January 15, 2013 WOODBRIDGE, Va. Elections officials testified before members of congress Monday at a packed meeting in Woodbridge recalling voting problems at Prince William County s River Oaks Voting Precinct.
Congressmen Hear Testimony from Prince William Voters who Waited in Long Lines on Election Day Potomac Local on January 15, 2013 The special hearing comes after long lines formed on Election Day at Potomac Middle School in Woodbridge, where the last vote was recorded at 10:46 p.m.
Congressmen Hear Testimony from Prince William Voters who Waited in Long Lines on Election Day Potomac Local on January 15, 2013 lines of people waiting to cast their vote filled school hallways and snaked outside the building for at least three hours. Some who testified Monday said pregnant women were forced to stand for hours
Did you know???? Pregnancy is a reason to vote Absentee! Look at Reason Code 2C! Expectant Husbands can use 2C as well
Congressmen Hear Testimony from Prince William Voters who Waited in Long Lines on Election Day Potomac Local on January 15, 2013 Prince William County Electoral Board Chairman Keith Scarborough said several factors led to the long lines at Potomac Middle School, noting that this was the first election since the decennial redistricting process and many voters unintentionally came to the wrong polling place and had to be assisted by poll workers.
Did you know???? Since the implementation of the 14 new precincts after Presidential 2012, many voters do not know that they are assigned to a new polling place and unintentionally may go to the wrong polling place in Presidential 2016.
Congressmen Hear Testimony from Prince William Voters who Waited in Long Lines on Election Day Potomac Local on January 15, 2013 Prince William County Electoral Board Chairman Keith Scarborough said No new voting machines are expected in Prince William until at least the next Presidential Election in 2016, but election turnout is expected to be lighter during elections until then.
Did you know???? Know before you go...that you will be marking your votes on a paper ballot and then you will be scanning your ballot into new voting equipment. The Virginia General Assembly has mandated that all Counties switch to new voting equipment and paper ballots.
Congressmen Hear Testimony from Prince William Voters who Waited in Long Lines on Election Day Potomac Local on January 15, 2013 One other possible solution discussed Monday is to urge Richmond not to include constitutional questions on the ballot during busy Presidential Election years. Officials said this delayed the voting process as voters thoroughly read each of the two lengthy questions asked of them on the ballot.
Guess What??? There will be two constitutional amendment questions on the ballot in Presidential 2016.
The Solution Educate Voters on how to Lessen the Election Day Line by Voting Absentee
History of Absentee Voting in Prince William County In ,189 voters voted absentee 26,256 voted absentee in Presidential 2012 Only 10 to 12% of voters take advantage of absentee voting
Other Large Cities and Localities Promote Absentee In Ohio, every registered voter was mailed an application for absentee voting. The number rose from 10% voting absentee to 30%. In Detroit, voter education drove absentee numbers from 68,000 in 2008 to 80,000 in The goal in 2016 is to get to 100,000 voting absentee.
Prince William County An estimated 148,756 citizens commute out of Prince William County. Commuting or having business outside of Prince William County is a qualifying reason for voters to vote absentee!
Prince William County In Prince William County, the goal for Presidential 2016 is to shift 68,000 voters to vote absentee. 68,000 voting absentee will be just over 25% of the number of registered voters in Prince William County.
Prince William County 68,000 voting absentee is about half of the 148,756 citizens who commute out of Prince William County. The expected voter turn out for this election is 75%. Shifting 25% to absentee will lessen the line on Election Day.
Myths about Absentee Voting Voters think that they have to qualify or fit certain criteria to vote absentee. This is a true statement, however there are numerous qualifying reasons that entitle voters to vote absentee.
Myths about Absentee Voting Absentee votes are not counted. In Virginia, by law, voters are entitled to vote by absentee ballot and these absentee ballots must be counted by Officers of Election on Election Day. Virginia Code Chapter
Myths about Absentee Voting Provisional Ballots are the ones that may or may not be counted after Election Day depending on the voter s eligibility. In Virginia, by law, voters are entitled to vote by absentee ballot and these absentee ballots must be counted by Officers of Election on Election Day. Virginia Code Chapter
Advantages of Voting Absentee by Mail Voters can apply online using the Virginia Department of Elections Online Citizen Portal Voting can be done in the privacy of your own home You can vote at home without feeling rushed and you can do your research on ballot items at home instead of on the fly in the polling place on Election Day The voted ballot is simply returned back in the mail to the Office of Elections to be counted on Election Day
Voting In Person Absentee Voters can still cast their ballot by putting their ballot into the voting equipment just the same as they would on Election Day
Voting In Person Absentee Five locations to vote absentee In Person in Prince William County: DMV, Ferlazzo, McCoart, Haymarket Town Hall and the Main Office in Manassas
Voting In Person Absentee Voters can vote the last three Saturdays prior to Election Day Locations are open until 7pm Monday through Friday the last three weeks of In Person Absentee Voting
The Secure Online Citizen Portal Voters can use the Virginia Department of Elections Online Citizen Portal at to do the following transactions: check their voter record update their voter record confirm their polling place apply for an absentee ballot see their sample ballot
