International travel and work mobility have increased in recent decades and as a result the number of people you are going to meet in your working and social life is greater than it would have been 50, or even 20 years ago. When meeting a person you have never met before, the first few minutes, and indeed the first few seconds are crucial to the success of your future relationship. In English-speaking countries the most important factor appears to be a good firm handshake, accompanied by a friendly smile. So what is the best way to break the ice?
