1 MATTERS RAISED WITH PERMISSION 1. On the 17 th February, 2006, Shri Jaswant Singh, Leader of the Opposition raised a matter regarding reported survey of persons belonging to a particular community in the defence forces. Shrimati Sushma Swaraj also spoke. 2. On the 20 th February, 2006: (i) Shri Nilotpal Basu raised a matter regarding reported statements made by the Ambassador of the United States of America in India and his purported letter to the Chief Minister of West Bengal. Shri Jaswant Singh, Leader of the Opposition and some other Members also spoke. (ii) Shri S.S. Ahluwalia raised a matter regarding arrest of Shri Yashwant Sinha, Member, and agitation due to closing/slowing down of centrally sponsored schemes in the State of Jharkhand. Shri Digvijay Singh also spoke. (iii)shri Ravi Shankar Prasad raised a matter regarding remarks made by the Minister of a State Government in connection with the recent world wide controversy over the publication of a cartoon in a newspaper of Denmark. 3. On the 22 nd February, 2006, Shrimati Vanga Geetha raised a matter regarding need to declare Telugu as an ancient and classical language. 4. On the 24 th February, 2006: (i) Shri Tarlochan Singh raised a matter regarding attempts allegedly being made by the Government of Haryana to rename the Thermal Power Plant at Panipat in Haryana Shrimati Sushma Swaraj also spoke. Affairs (ii) Shri Moolchand Meena raised a matter regarding reported killing of Tribals in police firing in Kalinganagar, Orissa, on the 2 nd January, Shri V. Narayansamy and Shri Birabhadra Singh also spoke. (iii) Shrimati Brinda Karat raised a matter regarding reported killing of four Youths in a village of the Handwara district of Jammu and Kashmir by the law enforcing agencies on the 22 nd February, 2006.
2 (iv) Shri Jai Parkash Aggarwal raised a matter regarding demolition of residential units in Delhi by MCD. 5. On the 27 th February, 2006: (i) Shri Sitaram Yechury raised a matter regarding need to restore faith in the system of delivery of justice in view of the recent judgment of a Session Court in the Jessica Lal murder case. Shri Jaswant Singh, Leader of the Opposition and Shrimati Brinda Karat also spoke. Shri Shivraj Vishwanath Patil, Minister of Home Affairs (ii) Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi raised a matter regarding the Round Table Conference held recently by the Government of India with the representatives of Jammu and Kashmir to resolve the problems being faced by the people of that State. Shrimati Sushma Swaraj, Shri Nilotpal Basu and Dr. Karan Singh also spoke. Shri Shivraj Vishwanath Patil, Minister of Home Affairs (iii)shri Satish Chandra Misra raised a matter regarding reported release of a CD involving a Member of Rajya Sabha and the serious issues arising out of it. Shri Sitaram Yechury and Shri Jaswant Singh, Leader of the Opposition also spoke. Shri Shivraj Vishwanath Patil, Minister of Home Affairs 6. On the 1 st March, 2006: (i) Shrimati N.P. Durga raised a matter regarding reported racial discrimination against Indians in U.S.A. (ii) Shri Penumalli Madhu raised a matter regarding marketing problems of Cotton growing farmers in the State of Andhra Pradesh. (iii)dr. Prabha Thakur raised a matter regarding reported marketing of spurious drugs in the country. (iv)shri Digvijay Singh raised a matter regarding reported arrest and imprisonment of a journalist. Shri Shivraj Vishwanath Patil, Ministry of Home Affairs (v) Shri Ravula Chandra Sekhar Reddy raised a matter regarding countermanding of a bye election to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly by the Election Commission of India. (vi) Shrimati Mohsina Kidwai raised a matter regarding reported killing and kidnapping of tribals by the Naxalites in the Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh on the 28 th February, On the 2 nd March, 2006, Shri P.G. Narayanan raised a matter regarding need to implement the judgment of the Supreme Court to raise the height of the Mulla Periyar dam.

On the 3 rd March, 2006: (i) Shri Ravula Chandra Sekar Reddy raised a matter regarding problems faced by the handloom weavers of the State of Andhra Pradesh and the reported incidents of suicides and starvation deaths of weavers in different parts of the State. Affairs (ii) Shri Kripal Parmar raised a matter regarding reported security drill at Rajghat. Shri Rajeev Shukla also spoke. Affairs 9. On the 6 th March, 2006: (i) Shri Moolchand Meena raised a matter regarding reported naxalites movement in the State of Chhattisgarh. (ii) Shri V. Narayanasamy raised a matter regarding findings of Justice U.C. Banerjee Commission of Enquiry on the Godhra incident. 10.On the 10 th March, 2006, Shri Lalit Kishore Chaturvedi raised a matter regarding reported severe damage to crop and live stock in different parts of Rajasthan due to the recent hailstorm and need to provide immediate relief to the affected farmers. Shri Moolchand Meena also spoke. Shri Sharad Pawar, Minister of Agriculture and Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, 11.On the 13 th March, 2006: (i) Shri P.G. Narayanan raised a matter regarding reported convening of a Special Session of the Kerala Legislative Assembly to set aside a recent judgement of the Supreme Court relating to the Mullai Periyar Dam. Shri A.K. Antony and Shri Nilotpal Basu also spoke. (ii) Shri Tarlochan Singh raised a matter regarding reported telecast of a programme titled Division of the Country on a private TV Channel. (iii)shrimati N.P. Durga raised a matter regarding reported hijack of an Indian merchant vessel named Bhaktisagar off the Somalian Coast and the need to rescue its crew members. 12.On the 17 th March, 2006, Shri Nilotpal Basu raised a matter regarding need for an investigation into the panic created by media on the outbreak of Bird Flu in India and
4 the reported commitment of a multi-national company to deliver a drug named Tami flu. 13.On the 16 th May, 2006: (i) Shri Tapan Kumar Sen raised a matter regarding reported disinvestment of the residual 49% shares of BALCO. (ii) Shri Kalraj Mishra raised a matter regarding lathi charge on the agitating medical students/doctors in different parts of the country. (iii)shri Santosh Bagrodia raised a matter regarding reported renaming and closure of schools in Rajasthan. (iv)shri Ravula Chandra Sekar Reddy raised a matter regarding problems faced by the farmers of Andhra Pradesh in selling their produce. 14.On the 17 th May, 2006: (i) Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi raised a matter regarding incident of grenade attack by terrorists in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir today, the 17 th May, Shri Shivraj Vishwanath Patil, Minister of Home (ii) Shri C. Ramachandraiah raised a matter regarding killing of persons of Cuddapah district of Andhra Pradesh in a fire incident in Kuwait. 15.On the 18 th May, 2006: (i) Shri Digvijay Singh raised a matter regarding test firing of Agni Missile-III. Some other Members associated. (ii) Shri Shantaram Laxman Naik raised a matter regarding need to ban the screening of film entitled Da Vinci Code. (iii)shri Uday Pratap Singh raised a matter regarding Government assistance to Sanskriti School in Delhi. Some other Members associated. (iv)shri Manohar Joshi raised a matter regarding seizure of large quality of RDX in different parts of Maharashtra. 16.On the 19 th May, 2006: (i) Shri S. S. Ahluwalia raised a matter regarding steep fall in the BSE Sensex. Shri Dinesh Trivedi and Shri Chittabrata Majumdar also spoke. (ii) Shri Jaswant Singh, Leader of the Opposition, raised a matter regarding management of the foreign policy of India in the context of happenings in the region and its immediate neighborhood. Shri Sitaram Yechury also spoke.

(iv)shri Jai Parkash Aggarwal raised a matter regarding India s election to the United Nations Human Rights Council with a thumping majority. (v) Shri Rudra Narayan Pany raised a matter regarding privatization of Government of India Text Book Press at Mysore, Chandigarh and Bhubaneshwar. 17.On the 22 nd May, 2006: (i) Shri Amar Singh raised certain issues on the working of the UPA Government on completion of its two years in office. Shri P. Chidambaram, Minister of Finance, (ii) Shrimati Brinda Karat raised a matter regarding gang rape of tribal women by militants in the State of Manipur. (iii)shri Lalit Kishore Chaturvedi raised a matter regarding need to make appropriate arrangements for candidates appearing for recruitment in various examinations conducted by railways. (iv)shri Mangani Lal Mandal raised a matter regarding reported killing of innocent persons by criminals in the Nalanda and Shekhpura districts of Bihar. (v) Prof. Ram Deo Bhandary raised a matter regarding police lathicharge on the medical students in Patna on the 19 th May, On the 23 rd May, 2006: (i) Shri Digvijay Singh raised a matter regarding demand to build a befitting museum at Patna in remembrance of Lord Buddha. Shrimati Ambika Soni, Minister of Tourism and Culture, (ii) Dr. Barun Mukherjee raised a matter about the findings of the Justice Mukherjee Commission of Enquiry regarding alleged disappearance of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and need for discussion in the House. Shri Debabrata Biswas also spoke. Shri Shivraj Vishwanath Patil, Minister of Home (iii)shri Ravi Shankar Prasad raised a matter regarding reported remarks of Pope Benedict XVI on the 18 th May, 2006 regarding conversion legislation in India.
