2 General Information on Kyrgyzstan Kyrgyzstan is a democratic country oriented to market economy. Total territory is 199,9 thousand km 2 Population is 5 millions of people (2002). Governance system Republic Administrative and territorial division 7 oblasts divided into 40 rayons (districts), 22 cities, 29 urban-type settlements and 470 ayil keneshes (village councils). 2
