3 1 Dear Reader, Péter Futó, Dr. President MGYOSZ/BUSINESSHUNGARY is the most prestigious and most influential representative organization based on voluntarism. Our goal is the responsible representation of Hungarian employers towards the government, the parliament, the trade unions as well as local and international organizations. Our association is a strong point for our members among the constantly changing economical challenges, which is helping them to enforce their interests effectively, get information, build their network of connections, and expand their business opportunities. MGYOSZ/BUSINESSHUNGARY represents 60 percent of the competitive sector, its members employing more than 1,2 million employees in total. I believe that the power of MGYOSZ/BUSINESSHUNGARY is rooted in its members and our strength is based on cooperating as a team. Our organization is working on it every day. Being involved in this work as the president of MGYOSZ/BUSINESSHUNGARY, I am proud to personally represent the interests of Hungary s market players. Péter Futó, Dr., President MILESTONES IN THE MORE THAN 100 YEAR HISTORY OF MGYOSZ/BUSINESSHUNGARY 1902: The Confederation of Hungarian Industrialists (GYOSZ) is founded 1948: GYOSZ dissolves itself due to the socialization enforced by the communist regime beginning from : Re-establishment as the Confederation of Hungarian Industrialists after the first free, multi-party elections of the new Hungarian constitutional democracy. 1998: With the merge of The Confederation of Hungarian Industrialists and The Hungarian Employers Association, MGYOSZ/BUSINESSHUNGARY is founded. 2004: As Hungary becomes a member of the European Union, MGYOSZ/BUSINESSHUNGARY opens a permanent representation office in Brussels, gains full membership in the International Organization of Employers (IOE), OECD Business and Industry Advisory Committee (BIAC), and BUSINESSEUROPE, the most influential employers representative organization in Europe, representing Hungarian companies interests on international level as well.

4 2 ACTIVITIES OF MGYOSZ/BUSINESSHUNGARY IN THE SERVICE OF HUNGARIAN ECONOMY Active representation and defense of the economy and employers interests primarily in the following areas: - Economic policies ensuring competitiveness and development - International economic relations - Legal stability, legislation - Tax and fiscal policy - Research and development, innovation - Education, training - Social and labour affairs - Occupational safety and health, environment protection MGYOSZ/BUSINESSHUNGARY plays a decisive role in shaping Hungary s economic development and the government s economical policies overarching governmental cycles. Committed representation, mediation and enforcement of employers interests with the tools of up-to-date, professional lobbying towards the government, the Parliament and trade unions, as well as the European Union and other international forums. Participation in the work of key decision-making bodies. Strengthening employers image through professional and conscious communication. Helping Hungarian foreign policy in the expansion on foreign markets, the international operation of domestic capital and the expansion of companies business opportunities. Strengthening the influence of the Hungarian representation in the European Union and other international forums. In support of lobbying in the European Union, MGYOSZ/BUSINESSHUNGARY is present with a representation in Brussels since 2004.

5 3 MGYOSZ/BUSINESSHUNGARY makes permanent efforts to further develop its relations with its members as well as local and international economic, political and social bodies. Professional and protocol events hosted by the confederation offer excellent networking opportunities for members, where they are able to meet the most influential representatives of economy and politics. Economic Summits At the forums held several times a year, most current issues are discussed with the invited decision makers and business leaders. Beside the representatives of MGYOSZ/BUSINESSHUNGARY members, the press is also invited for the events. Professional conferences, international business forums The regular professional conferences by MGYOSZ/BUSINESSHUNGARY give an overall picture about economical environment and business opportunities. From time to time, international speakers including representatives of BUSINESS- EUROPE and its member organizations are also presenting at the conferences. Figyelő-MGYOSZ club events MGYOSZ/BUSINESSHUNGARY organises monthly club evenings in association with business paper Figyelő. The limited-audience event series offers a particularly good opportunity for getting informed and networking as well. Discussions with foreign partner associations Regular consultation opportunity with representatives of MGYOSZ/BUSINESSHUNGARY s partner associations abroad. Members are able to personally represent their standpoints towards European decision makers, and getting information about economical issues affecting them.

6 4 MGYOSZ/BUSINESSHUNGARY NEWSLETTER FOR ENTREPRENEURS The aim of the monthly online publication is to inform its readers about the latest financial and economical news in order to let them make their economic decisions regarding the domestic and international market by knowing the latest information. The newsletter aims to help efficient, reliable and quick orientation for members by discussing the most actual, most important issues each month. Through introducing analyses and background materials about fields that are relevant for employers, it contributes to the sufficiently detailed and objective examination of economic processes that are affecting the members. OFFICIAL JOURNAL: MAGYAR GYÁRIPAR The main goal of the monthly journal by MGYOSZ/BUSINESSHUNGARY is to showcase the latest events in the life of MGYOSZ/BUSINESSHUNGARY and to report on the association s work, the results reached in advocacy, and changes that may be important for members. Furthermore, the magazine presents the latest analyses about the Hungarian and international manufacturing industry, market situation and market competition. Readers may find information about the national and international economic situation, and get an insight into the background of market regulations, opportunities involving the European Union and Hungary.
