It is a predominantly black working-class area, with some middle and upper class.it comprises of Newton West, Montrose, Bellevue, Barham Green, Donington, Belmont, Tshabalala and Sizinda. Bulawayo South is one of the largest constituencies in Bulawayo. Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation Montrose studios are based in this constituency.

4 The delimitation of this constituency does not display common interests as high density suburbs were mixed with low and medium-density areas. These people have different issues and having one representative does not guarantee that their needs are met. Some of the people are formally employed, while others survive on informal sector activities like street vending, black marketing, cross border trading, cash dealings. The harsh economic conditions, shortage of basic commodities, shortage of water and electricity have afflicted people and may influence voting pattern in favour of opposition. Election History Notable former members for this constituency is David Coltart, who in the 2008 election moved to the Senate. The MDC has become a dominant party in Bulawayo South and in 2000 saw the ZANU-PF candidate suffer a heavy loss of 51.6% of the vote. In the 2005 election, however, the ZANU-PF made a small, but significant gain, while the MDC lost over 8,000 votes due in large part to poor voter turnout in the 2005 general election. The decline in support from 2005 to 2000 can also be attributed to constituency redistricting. David Coltart has remained a key member of the MDC as one of its highest-ranking members. In 2008 there were recorded registered voters, in 2013 and in Election Results Political Party Name of Candidate Number of Votes % of Votes ZANU PF Dube Bafana Andy % MDC T Polling Stations Cross Edward Graham % In 2013, Bulawayo South had a total of 26 polling centres as compared to 25 that have been set for Who is campaigning? 6 critical shortage of basic commodities and cash, water, electricity are most likely to influence their voting patterns. Most people in this constituency are formally employed. Although people in this constituency have lost interest in electoral process for a number of reasons including previous pre-election violence, predictability of results among others, there are a number of things that will influence their voting patterns. Reasons include harsh economic conditions, shortage of basic goods including electricity and water and the underdeveloped infrastructure. This constituency is linked to the Entumbane Crisis now known as Gukurahundi. People largely survive on informal sector activities such as street vending, cross border trade, illegal cash dealings, and black marketing and backyard saloons among others.
