Representing accountant to a variety of connected businesses alleged to have defrauded internet ticket purchasers by selling non - existent tickets. Moruthoane [2010] St Albans - Leading.

3 En primeur wine fraud. Acted for one of 6 defendants selling top growth Bordeaux wines. Hauschildt [2009] Southwark - Leading. Mortgage fraud involving swindling of wealthy octogenarian lady whose property was transferred to a Panamanian company. Trial collapsed when it was demonstrated that, contrary to conveyancing documents, solicitor had not witnessed defendant s signature. Shah [2007/8] Kingston - Leading. Counterfeit pharmaceutical fraud. Offences under Medicines Regulations 1994 and Trade Marks Act MHRA prosecution of international counterfeiting ring involving lifestyle medicines such as Viagra. Products manufactured in Asia and Far East, shipped through UK and onward to US market. Represented UK Pharmacist with Wholesale Dealer s licence. Hung jury after 7 month trial followed by successful abuse of process submission. Celsachi [2008] Snaresbrook - Leading. 8 defendant fraud on company by creation of fictitious employees on payroll. Guilty plea and non-custodial sentence. Gladstein [2008] Harrow Mortgage fraud in which property developer was alleged to have obtained 60 properties by fraud. Represented Legal Executive responsible for conveyancing whose conduct led to the collapse of the Solicitors firm by whom he was employed. Adlington [2008] Kingston Leading. Money laundering followed by confiscation in which the initial claim for 1.5m was reduced, after a 2 week hearing, to 18,000. Ataya [2007] Croydon - Leading. Bank fraud involving 11 defendants and 162 bank accounts in bogus names. Court [2006] Reading Fraudulent trading by Company Director. Limited guilty pleas and noncustodial sentence. Fisher [2003-5] Central Criminal Court The Jubilee Line Trial involved the trial of several surveyors accused of corruption and defrauding London Underground of millions of pounds in connection with tendering for the Jubilee Line extension project, the largest construction project in Europe at that time. The trial lasted 21

4 months before it collapsed due to its longevity and consequential remoteness of a fair trial. Forsyth [1997] Southwark The collapse of the FTSE 100 company Polly Peck and the disappearance of company funds. Elizabeth Forsyth was tried alone after Asil Nadir, the company s chief executive, fled to Northern Cyprus. Convicted of handling the company s stolen money, her conviction was quashed on appeal. Work with an international dimension includes the representation of Caribbean prisoners in appeals before the Privy Council and appearing in a politically sensitive three month drug smuggling trial in Famagusta Assize Court, Northern Cyprus. Dixon & others [2015] Old Bailey Represented one of a number of teenagers accused of the murder of a young man who had intervened to defend the victim of a knife attack. Complex issues of joint enterprise. Davis [2013] Old Bailey Representation of one of two young women accused of murder in which a learning disabled man was lured on a car journey to a remote spot where he was repeatedly stabbed.

5 Taft & others [2013] Stafford Appeared for principal defendant on charge of conspiracy to cause explosions, involving pipe bombs posted through letter boxes of persons associated with a business rival. Noble [2013] Lewes 2 handed murder of dog walker after argument outside convenience store. Mills [2012] Murder, Old Bailey. Man accused of the planned stabbing/murder of his ex-girlfriend. He had previously masqueraded as another person on social network when communicating with the victim. Psychiatric defence. Watson [2012] Murder, Lewes Crown Court Man accused of stabbing/murder of friend of ex-girlfriend in her home. Defence of self-defence/accident. Name withheld, subject to reporting restrictions [2011] Murder, Old Bailey. Instructed on behalf of one of the twenty defendants in the murder of a schoolboy at Victoria Station during rush hour, attracting considerable national media coverage. The prosecution eventually dropped the case against this accused. Leighton [2011] Indecent assault, Court of Appeal. Instructed on a reference by the Criminal Cases Review Commission, the defendant s old convictions were quashed on the ground of fresh evidence of the complainant s untruthfulness in making other sexual complaints. Chen [2010] Old Bailey, leading. Represented principal gang member in multiple kidnap, false imprisonment and torture of UK Chinese residents and the blackmail of family members in China. Shulman [2010] Rape and false imprisonment, Court of Appeal. Instructed to review the 2004 convictions relating to the rape of a prostitute, the appeal was allowed on the basis of fresh medical evidence; a verdict of unfitness to plead substituted. Doyle [2010] False imprisonment & blackmail. Struck-off solicitor went into witness protection scheme after being allegedly falsely imprisoned and forced to sign over proceeds of

6 property sale. Successful abuse of process submission on grounds of delay and prosecution manipulation of court process. Pommell [2009] drugs supply, Kingston. The defendant was alleged to have controlled a large ring of street dealers by taking hundreds of telephone orders daily and arranging dealer / customer supply meetings. Maughan [2008] murder, Old Bailey, leading. Represented one of 10 defendants on trial for the gang-related murder of young man on West London estate. Defendant acquitted of murder. Sharifzadeh [2006] murder, Old Bailey, leading. Man accused of killing his wife in the family home and disposing of her body parts by incineration on his allotment. Roberts [2006] murder, Old Bailey, leading. Stabbing of youth by others in West London Street during rush hour. Over 50 eyewitnesses. Defendant acquitted. Theofilou [2006] murder, Old Bailey. Frenzied stabbing attack on neighbour following dispute. Defence of diminished responsibility accepted. Nelson [2006] firearms and s18, Southwark. Alleged revenge shooting outside nightclub. Mistaken identification run successfully. Benson [2004] murder, Old Bailey, leading. Fight between brothers leading to fatal stabbing. Successful defence of accident. Corporate Crime and Financial Regulatory A ranked practitioner, Paul Bogan has a strong reputation in this arena with experience in an array of Company Act and insolvency cases. 7 Appellate, International & Commonwealth Work Paul regularly receives instructions to review convictions and to advise on appeal to the Court of Appeal. He has substantial experience as an advocate in the Privy Council. For many years he researched, drafted and presented appeals to the Privy Council on behalf of Caribbean prisoners seeking to overturn their convictions for murder. In 2010 he acted for Kirk Gordon who was convicted of murder in Belize On appeal to the Privy Council the murder conviction was quashed and manslaughter substituted. Previously he represented Panikos Tsiakourmas a Greek Cypriot who was charged with possession of controlled drugs in Northern Cyprus whose trial took place over three months in Famagusta Assize Court. The defence alleged that he had been abducted by Turkish Cypriot agents and planted with drugs in revenge for the arrest and prosecution of Turkish Cypriot by Cypriot authorities in the Republic. The case was politically sensitive involving statements in the European Parliament and representations at diplomatic level concerning witness intimidation.
