2 Returning to Slovakia This document provides information and details of organisations which may be useful if you are facing removal or deportation to Slovakia. While every care is taken to ensure that the information is correct this does not constitute a guarantee that the organisations will provide the services listed. Your Embassy in the UK Embassy of the Slovak Republic 25 Kensington Palace Gardens W8 4QY Tel: Fax: (consular section) cons.london@mzv.sk Travel documents You can be removed from the UK to Slovakia if you have a valid Slovakian passport or national identity card. If you do not have a valid passport or identity card then you will need to apply for a document called an EU Letter and complete a biometric data form. Any documentation you can provide evidencing nationality, such as expired passport or identity card, birth certificate, Slovakian driving license or similar will helpful in obtaining an EU Letter. Return If you are willing to return and want to ensure that you are returned to Slovakia as soon as possible you can: Contact your caseworker at the Home Office to say that you are willing to return; Make every effort to find supporting documentation for issuing of travel documents; Make contact with the Slovak Embassy to begin the process of obtaining a travel document. You may find it useful to read the information below to begin preparing for your return. Documentation in Slovakia All Slovak citizens aged 15 or over are required to have an identity card. A card can be obtained by applying in person to your District Police Directorate. Applicants are required to complete a form and provide your birth certificate, proof of permanent residence (issued by the municipal authority) and to pay a small fee (at date of writing between Euros). For further information contact: Ministry of Interior /Kancelária ministra vnútra SR Tlačový odbor, Pribinova 2, Bratislava Tel: , 02/ , 02/ Fax: 02/ info@minv.sk Accommodation Municipalities have a small stock of social housing for those on low incomes, with priority usually being given to those who are particularly vulnerable such as those with disabilities or single parents with young children. Those who wish to apply for social housing should contact their local municipality. Most assistance for homeless people comes from churches and the voluntary sector. There is a housing co-operative movement in Slovakia. Housing in cooperatives is rent protected and therefore offered at similar rates to social housing. More information on cooperatives can be gained from the SZBD, an umbrella organisation for housing cooperatives:
3 SLOVENSKÝ ZVÄZ BYTOVÝCH DRUŽSTIEV (SZBD) Palárikova 16, Bratislava 1 Tel: Fax: 02/ szbd@nextra.sk Some charities provide homelessness shelters and services, mainly in Bratislava. Their details can be found in the directory below. Health All employed and self-employed people in Slovakia must have health insurance. There are five health insurance agencies regulated by the government for the provision of health insurance. The government pays insurance contributions for those who are exempt for contributing including the unemployed, pensioners and people on long-term sickness benefit, maternity leave, job seekers, and those in receipt of disability benefits. Emergency care is available free to all including those without state health insurance. However, once your condition has stabilised they will want proof of your insurance status. Emergency support Benefits are paid to households rather than to individuals, so those who are homeless or in temporary accommodation are not eligible. Individuals are only eligible for unemployment benefits if they have worked for two years out of the last three. For further information on social support in Slovakia contact the Offices of Labour, Social Affairs and Family: Tel: for information on pensions, , information on contribution collection, sickness insurance and other types of social insurance podatelna@socpoist.sk Those who have worked in the UK and who would be eligible if in the UK for a contributions based benefit through payment of sufficient national insurance contributions may be able to access that benefit in Slovakia.
