1 We get Australians onto the water and enjoying this quintessential part of Australian life ELCOME Working for the benefit of the Australian recreational and light commercial marine industry bia.org.au
2 ABOUT THE BIA The Boating Industry Association the BIA is the voice of the recreational and light commercial marine industry, promoting safe, recreational boating as a positive and rewarding lifestyle for Australians. The Association strives to ensure that our members voices are heard in all relevant government, community and industry forums, to ensure any decisions that impact this lifestyle truly consider the needs of the boating community. The main objective of the BIA is to support and improve the sustainability of the recreational and light commercial marine industry. The BIA represents an industry that generates an annual turnover of $8 billion, exporting $1 billion in products and services *. THE BIA AIMS TO: Increase recreational boat ownership and use in Australia through the development of the marine industry and the promotion of recreational boating Promote recreational boating as a safe, environmentally sound and responsible leisure pastime for Australians Promote ongoing and enduring improvements to safety, training, facilities and legislation relevant to the industry, with a focus on self regulation Work with appropriate organisations and authorities to address issues related to the environment, boating safety, waterways infrastructure, access to waterways and related public facilities Conduct a national program of boat shows to promote wider awareness of the industry both internally and externally The BIA operates under the direction of a Board of Directors, made up of representatives from each of the participating States. Each State has a Council that is active in ensuring local matters are identified and resourced for the benefit of all members. State-based BIAs were established in the 1960s and 1970s. *BIAA State of Industry Survey The BIA provides a forum to discuss industry needs, problems and solutions and serves as the representative of the industry to Federal, State and Local Government departments and agencies, as well as other industry bodies, corporate interests, allied organisations, media and the general public.
3 900,000 BOATS 30,000 EMPLOYEES 2,500 BUSINESSES $8 BILLION VALUE $1 BILLION EXPORT Members are encouraged to contribute to the formation of BIA policies, identifying issues and solutions - with no issue too broad or too small. THE BIA CODE OF PRACTICE: The BIA takes seriously its role in the promotion of a safe and rewarding marine industry for Australians, with all members required to make a pledge to abide by the BIA Code of Practice. The Code of Practice establishes standards of conduct for all BIA members, and acts as a guide on many issues regarding the relationship between members and customers.
