10 Explanatory notes Return to contents page Students counted The tables here summarise the numbers of students studying at, or in association with, the University of Bath in the academic year 2017/18 at the snapshot date of 1 December It is at this date that early returns from Universities are made to the Higher Education Funding Councils. The overall total of international students given in these tables is the number of those with active registrations at the census date; it excludes all students whose registration was in suspense, and those research students who, having completed their research, were writingup their theses either with reduced supervision or without supervision. Levels Three levels are included: undergraduate (taught programmes only, Foundation Degree/sub-degree, and degree, including undergraduate Masters such as MEng), postgraduate taught and research. International students The table of international student numbers shows students whose nationality is other than British and students whose domicile is other than UK. This analysis assumes that the students from the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man and any student whose nationality is not known are not international students. The table includes all types of active registrations: core, visiting students and staff registrations. The table lists those countries with the most students at the University of Bath arranged in descending order by domicile. Domicile is the country of the student's permanent or home address immediately preceding the start of their programme of study. Within the total international student numbers, 128 domicile countries and 130 nationality countries are represented. About 0.5% of the international students (based on nationality) are based off campus, primarily on distance learning programmes.
