2 Changing Healthcare Landscape Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is working to curb the rising cost of health care and maintain the affordability of health plans for Tennesseans. The PPACA provisions i will affect millions of Americans and how they access, receive and pay for care. The US HealthCare Efficiency Index is tracking the savings associated with adopting electronic solutions for administrative transactions across the industry. 2

3 What is EFT? EFT is a process that allows you to have your BCBST payments electronically deposited into your bank account rather than waiting on checks to be mailed to you This process allows you to have access to your funds sooner than if you wait on paper checks to arrive in your office, then be deposited into your account. Commercial and Dental payments are posted to your bank account on Wednesday. VSHP payments are posted to your bank account on Friday. 3

4 EFT Security The EFT process maintains the highest level of security for both you and your patients because the paper remittance advice statements are no longer mailed to your office which means there is no chance for your remittance advice and check to be lost or damaged in the U.S. Mail Remittance Advice Statements include the following information that should be kept secure: Provider Tax Identification Number BCBST Provider Identification Number Patient Name and Identification Number Patient Procedure Codes 4

5 EFT Questions Is EFT the same as Electronic Payment Posting? No. Your vendor can set you up on automatic payment posting. Is the Electronic c Remittance Advice the same as EFT? No. An Electronic Remittance Advice shows how the payment is allocated and can be set up to automatically post payments. EFT simply deposits the money into a bank account. After I start participating p in the EFT program, will I continue to receive my paper remittance advices? No. You will no longer be sent paper remittance advices as soon as you begin to receive EFT payments. Your remittance advice will be available on the company website or be set up as a HIPAA 835 electronic remittance advice. 5

6 EFT Questions What if an incorrect payment amount is credited to my bank account? BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee reserves the right to correct an incorrect payment amount that is credited to the provider s bank account. Any other overpayment e amount will NOT be recovered e ed from the provider via this process. 6
