7 A Tailoring and Garment Cutting student measuring fabric during the exam Recommendations from the DIT Team The team was excited with the way we were doing the training and did their best to see that the exams were conducted smoothly. They also shared with us their recommendations: In a bid to improve to our student s knowledge base, we should provide textbooks so that they can do enough research. Our mobilization strategy should be increased so that we have more young women in courses like carpentry. We should expand on the number of courses to cater to other people who would not be interested in the ongoing exams. Expand on the temporary shelters being used for classes in Bricklaying and Concrete Practice and Carpentry and Joinery. At the end of the day, the team from the Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT) was very happy with what Panyadoli Vocational Training Institute (PVTI) is doing, and they promised to continue working with us to see that our vocational school grows. Members of the Parliament of Uganda Visit Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement Today, March 16 th, 2017 members of the Parliament of Uganda visited the town of Bweyale and Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement. The team was led by the Minister for Disaster Preparedness under the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), who came to visit the areas that are hosting refugees. The primary objective was to identify the gaps, both within the settlement and the host community. The minister informed us that they would receive a loan from World Bank, which is to be used to support both the host community and the refugees. The loan would help to bridge the gaps and also improve infrastructure 7

8 within and outside the refugee settlement to reduce pressure on the existing infrastructure, that is the schools and hospitals. When he heard what Real Medicine Foundation s team is doing in the settlement, along with other development partners, the minister was happy and encouraged us to give more support for the services we are providing to people of concern. 8
