2 Overview of the study Cultural competency training as a response to radicalization leading to violence Part 1. Engaged a company (environics) to conduct on-line, 41 item survey with registrants 18+ from Ethnic Voice (minimally paid by company for each survey (paid in cents) In addition to relationships with police; intra and intercommunity relationships; quality of life in community; community relations and discrimination (quantitative) and verbatim (qualitative) Most people stated that they would identify anyone whom they knew were endangering the security of the country Part 2 looking in to police training is currently wrapping up

3 Sample 700 Toronto 700Montreal and 500 in Saskatoon (n=1900) acted as our base group. ethnic subgroup oversampling (Muslims, Blacks, and Asians/South Asians) was composed of 100 Toronto 100 Montreal, 50 of each in Saskatoon (n=750). Grand total sample N= Age = x 44; 1741 females 1646 males 2317 born in Canada, 1053 elsewhere and 17 declined to answer.

16 Synopsis All people are concerned about country s security and will denounce those who would harm it; Perception that some people are targeted; Muslims and Blacks, in particular, feel targeted in several areas; More people had good to say about neighbourhood and neighbours than bad; Bad is focused on quality of living issues (racism, lack of a sense of inclusion; lack of an appreciation and respect of cultural differences) Good is focused on feeling secure, welcomed in the community, good neighbours, people working together to create resilient communities; Country rejected the call to stimatize the other Youth need to feel involved, included, and respected; Having resilient communities will help young people and youth to withstand the lure of those who wish to recruit them into evil-doing; (ex. Dabiq magazine);
