1 HKBA s Convention Against Torture Training and Accreditation Programme 10-11, June 2017 The Convention Against Torture and Non-refoulement Claims Scheme ( the Scheme ) is a publicly-funded legal assistance scheme currently operated by the Duty Lawyer Service to represent claimants for claims of non-refoulement protection. To prepare legal practitioners for the Scheme, the Hong Kong Bar Association is organizing a comprehensive training programme on the law and practice relating to CAT and non-refoulement claims on 10-11, June We are honoured to have invited leading experts and experienced practitioners in non-refoulement claims and refugee law to be our speakers in the training programme. There will be a case sharing session on Day 4 of the training programme for practitioners to share their experience in handling CAT claims under the Scheme. The training programme consists of a series of morning and afternoon sessions. Participants may choose to enrol on one or more sessions. This is to cater for those who have missed the previous top up courses organised by the Bar Association, or other CAT training sessions organised by the Security Bureau and/or the Academy of Law. Those completing this full programme will be issued with a Certificate of Completion by the Hong Kong Bar Association and will be eligible to register with the Duty Lawyer Service to be included in the panel of the Scheme. Accreditation Certificate of Completion will be issued by the Hong Kong Bar Association for participants who have attended the full programme will be eligible to register with the Duty Lawyer Service to be included in the panel of the CAT and Non-refoulement Claims Scheme. The course is open to Bar members, pupils, non-bar members including solicitors, trainee solicitors, law students of the University of Hong Kong and staff of the Duty Lawyer Service CAT Office. 2. For members, pupils, solicitors and trainee solicitors, note that places will not be reserved by submission of the online registration form WITHOUT receipt of full payment of the appropriate course fees. 3. Course fee(s) paid shall under NO circumstances be refunded or transferred unless the enrolled course is full or cancelled. 4. The Hong Kong Bar Association reserves the right to alter or cancel this course. 5. If the course becomes full, there will be an announcement and any unsuccessful registrants will be notified before the commencement of the course. Unsuccessful registrants will receive a refund of the appropriate course fee.
