1 Freedom of Information Request Reference No: I note you seek access to the following information: 1. Please could you provide the number of male domestic violence reports you have received in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016? If possible, please provide an ethnic breakdown. 2. Please could you provide the number of female domestic violence reports you have received in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016? If possible, please provide an ethnic breakdown. 3. Of those male domestic violence reports, how many resulted in an arrest in those years? 4. Of those female domestic violence reports, how many resulted in an arrest in those years? 5. Of those male domestic violence reports that were arrested in those years, did any receive a prison sentence? 6. Of those female domestic violence reports that were arrested in those years, did any receive a prison sentence? 7. Would it be possible to have the data you hold for those people charged for prosecution at court by the CPS, or People Proceeded Against, as you described it? DECISION Whilst you have requested information concerning domestic violence I can advise that the MPS investigates all matters of Domestic Abuse in order that victims are identified and protected and perpetrators are brought to justice. Crimes counted as Domestic Abuse will be those fitting the current home office definition. That is: Any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive or threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are or have been intimate partners or family members regardless of gender or sexuality. This can encompass but is not limited to the following types of abuse: Psychological Physical Sexual
2 Financial Emotional In this case to provide you with the information you are seeking a search was carried out for crime reports that have a confirmed and notifiable offence, where the owning Police Service was the MPS and where one of the three Domestic Abuse marker codes (crime flags) have been added: The marker codes used are: DV: Domestic Abuse Incident DI: Same sex domestic abuse incident (used to calculate Victims Same Sex DA) DX: Domestic Incident resolved I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full. Please find attached information pursuant to your request. Please note: Questions 1 and 2 please see attached spreadsheet Victims Table. As mentioned above this data only includes crime reports that have a confirmed and notifiable offence. Questions 3 and 4 please see attached spreadsheet Custody Arrest Table. Please note that this data only counts arrests resulting in a person being taken to a MPS Detention centre and therefore will not include where the person is taken to, for example, another police force area. It will also not include where a person has been dearrested prior to arrival at a MPS Detention centre. Additionally, as different data systems are used for crime reports and custody arrests no comparisons can be made between the two different sets of data. Questions 5 and 6 I can advise that the MPS does not routinely collate conviction data. This is because the MPS is not the prosecution authority. You may therefore wish to contact the Ministry of Justice Question 7 - please see attached spreadsheet PPA tables. Information Rights Unit
