Planned intervention and responses undertaken e. Recommendations f. Venue of the next meeting g. AOB A) Opening Remarks SYPD director welcomed all participants in brief opening remarks. He then opened the floor to all members requesting to provide a brief on the action points noted during the last meeting. 1) BANIADAM: - Completed the construction of the remained 250 latrines out 500 latrines in Elesha Biyaha area of Afgoye corridor in partnership with NRC. - Provision of free water supply to faculty of agriculture area, are smoothly going in 46 settlements in Agro-Arbis settlement. - Conducted hygiene promotion training for 60 IDP from different camps in faculty of agriculture in the month of January. 2) CED - Constructed a borehole at Maryacade village of Afgoye district and is fully functional.

3 3 - Rehabilitated shallow wells in Adale district - Constructed 175 latrines in Afgoye, Warsheikh, Galcad and Adale districts 3) DANISH REFUGEE COUNCIL (DRC) - DRC is currently providing 384,000 liters of water to 6,400 households in Bal ad Corridor and North Mogadishu where every house hold receives 60 ltrs of water per day/10 liters /person/day. - DRC provided a training to enhance promotion of hygiene and sanitation for 220 participants from Agro Arbis area of Afgoye corridor and completed monitoring of latrines. 4) HACDA Planned hygiene awareness raising campaign completed successfully in Bala d cooridor 5) HIJRA - Construction/Rehabilitation of three shallow wells, - Distribution of 7000 Jerry cans and Soaps is not in Ceelsha camps we carry out these activities Camps in Mogadishu - Trained 65 WES Committees plus Medical staff,the trainees are from Mogadishu( IDP Settlements and Banadir Hospital) - Hijra is Doing Microbiological water analysis for water Hijra provides camps. - Hygiene promotion messages through Shabelle Radio. 6) IRS - Water trucking project in Hawa Abdi area completed successfully.

4 4 7) MURDO - Conducted needs assessment in Bal ad corridor together with Shabelle, Simba and Somaliaweyn media outlets. - Carried out hygiene promotion campaigns in Bal ad - Conducted a water need assessment in Hareericade and Aliyale areas of middle Shebelle. 8) NRC - Constructed 1,000 latrines from Km13 to Elasha Biyaha with SYPD and Bani adam. - Conducted 2 hygiene trainings for IDPs residing in KM13 and Elasha biyaha. - Distributed 150 sanitation kits in Km13 and Elasha Biyaha settlements. - Distributed 328 tents and 4,000 Non Food Item kits 9) OSPAD - Ospad conducted hygiene promotion awareness raising for another 6 IDP camps waberi district particularly, whereas more than 20 IDP camps who could not flee to AFGOIE corridor are still camped.

5 5 10) SDRO - Provided pipe water systems in Agro- Arbis is going on. 11) SERRA - SERRA is still carrying out a hygiene awareness campaign in Bal ad corridor (CHARP) 12) SORDO - Supervised constructed latrines in Agro-arbis area 13) SOPHA - Chlorination of wells in Afgoye corridor is still going on 14) SYPD - Distributed 100 sanitary tools in K13 - Completed the construction of 250 latrines in km13 in partnership with NRC. B) UPDATE ON ONGOING ACTIVITIES - BANIADAM: Bani Adam undertook and concluded WASH assessment in 14 IDP camps in Mogadishu with the collaboration and information sharing of NRC and Hijra who are main actors in Mogadishu. The assessed camps are specially in the districts of

6 6 Boondhere, Waabari, Hamar Jajab,Hodan and Wadajir which mainly provided sanitation facility by NRC - CED: The pipeline water supply is still going in 29 settlements in Elasha Biyaha targeting 8,437 households, (60 Liters per HH). The construction of a shallow well in Magad village is also going on. - DRC: Monitoring and evaluation of constructed latrines in Agro- Arbis settlements is under process. DRC is also conducting trainings to enhance IDPs hygiene in areas where latrines were constructed. The NGO is also conducting need assessments in settlements situated around Balad district of Middle Shabelle. - HACDA: Continuation of the same activity of chlorination - HIJRA: Continue piped water provision, in Ceelsha and some of Hawa Abdi IDPs Settlements - Monitoring of overall hygiene,latrines use and water containers - MURDO: Sanitation and hygiene promotion currently Murdo is using local fm radios in Mogadishu to airing hygiene promotion. - OSPAD: issued/disseminating number of copies of community protection presses with articles of community health and hygiene promotion for the purpose of health education enhancement to the targeted IDP communities and public in general. - SDRO: SDRO is providing pipe water systems in Agro- Arbis settlement

7 7 - SERRA: The NGO is carrying out community hygiene awareness programs at individual and community levels at Bal ad. C) PLANNED ACTIVITIES - BANIADAM - Baniadam will continue the water supply in the faculty of agriculture. - Will conduct two day hygiene promotion training to new 60 IDPs from agro university IDPs in the month of February. - CED - Continuation of water supply in Elesha settlements. Rehabilitation of Magad shallow wells in Galgud region of central Somalia. - DRC Construction of 180 latrines in Bal ad corridor in partnership with SYPD and conducting hygiene promotion training to 120 persons from 40 camps living in Bal ad corridor. - DRC is also planning to distribute 1,580 NFI kits to 1580 HHDs living in Bal ad corridor. - DRC shared with the cluster that it will not continue current water trucking at Bal ad corridor and north Mogadishu beyond 10th march, Therefore, welcomes any NGO willing to fill that gap. - DRC Will conducts impact assessment of the latrines in Agro Arbis area of Afgoye corridor. - HACDA- Continuation of needs assessment process in Mogadishu IDPs.

8 8 - HIRJA - Continue provion of water in Ceelasha and Hawa Abdi - Construction of 162 latrines in Hawa Abdi - Over all monitoring public health ( Latrines,water containers) - Erecting 25 bill boards for Hygiene measges in to 25 camps for Mogadishu - Distribtion2200 posters for hygiene Measages to 25 camps for Mogadishu - IRS is planning to start water piping from KM 10 to KM 15 settlements. - MURDO - Rehabilitation of 5 shallow wells and 850 latrines in Bal ad corridor. - NRC will distribute 300 tents and will construct 1,500 latrines to improve hygiene of IDPs living in Afgoie Corridor and Baidoa. Up to 300 latrines will be constructed in Baydhabo while the remaining 1,200 are allocated for IDPs in Afgoye corridor in partnership with BANIADAM and SYPD. NRC will also conduct sanitation and hygiene promotion training. - OSPAD is determined to continue with hygiene promotion and garbage collection in Mogadishu Hospitals and in selected IDP settlements. OSPAD will also carry out a need assessment in Hodan and Wadajir districts - SDRO is planning to construct 400 latrines and rehabilitate 400 more latrines in Lafole and Hawa Abdi IDP camps. SDRO is also planning to commence a garbage collection campaign in Agro-Arbis and Lafole - SERRA is continuing with community hygiene awareness programs - SOPHA will provide a number of trainings on HIV/Aids

9 9 - SORDO will perform monitoring and evaluation on the condition of latrines constructed in Agro-Arbis settlement - SYPD to construct 185 latrines in partnership with DRC at Bal ad corridor. SYPD will also construct 600 latrines and 120 washing basins at Afgoye corridor in partnership with NRC. D) EXISTING GAPS - DRC noted that there is a need for the construction of up to 1,200 latrines in Bal ad corridor and it can commit the construction of 180 out of that number. - DRC will end its water tracking project early March, Unless another NGO is willing to take role, beneficiaries will suffer from water shortages. - There is chronic water shortage in the corridors of Afgooye and Bal ad due to broken wells. Several NGOs suggested that the rehabilitation of these wells is much cheaper and speedier than building new ones. - No water trucking conducted by the donkey carts distributed by MURDO along the IDP settlements on the main road that DRC provides water with. Therefore, DRC will recommend that any agency ready to fill the gap or need water trucking extension from WASH/HRF. - BAINADAM reported that the generator of Qalinle Bh, is one of the most important boreholes that serve huge number of IDPs in faculty of agriculture has break down from the fuel pump. BANIADAM tried to fix the pump but spare parts is not avialalbe in the market, as they made some technical modifications the water supply restarted but expressed that this will not last long. on the other hand although the generator Guulwade borehole(the second boreholes that supplies to agro/arbis area) is functioning but weak

10 10 and have concern to fail, therefore Bani Adam showed their concern come out of water gap if not soonly replaced these generators. E) VENUE Next meeting will be held at CED office in Mogadishu on 1 st MARCH 2010 AT 9:00 am F) AOB The cluster discussed the recent figures of the IDPs at Afgoye corridor released by UNHCR. The Mogadishu cluster disagreed with UNHCR figures and therefore came up with the following action plans: o A task force comprising 12 organizations comprising local and international NGOs was established to analyze the actual number of IDPs at Afgoye corridor. o The committee is expected to hold it first meeting in DRC office Mogadishu on Wednesday 03/02/2010 to discuss the methodologies to be used for survey and also outline the timeframe for the data collection. o The committee will conduct house to house survey and will share the outcome of the survey with all relevant stakeholders.
