1 Publication: 13 August 2018 Event Tracking: Yambio New displacement in Yambio: Hai Malakia, Ikpiro, St. Mary Catholic Parish, Suk Siro, Timbiro ECS Cathedral Parish, Tiindoka Data Collection: 4-6 July 2018 Background Internally displaced persons (IDPs) that have recently fled to Yambio town as a result of conflict indicate that they have traveled from areas such as Saura, Makporo, Mamamo, Bazumburu, and Rimenze (Yambio Payam). Transport to and from the town has been limited as travel routes have become insecure, and IDPs have resorted to traveling by foot to reach IDP sites and places of refuge in host community settings. Local churches and humanitarian partners have been able to provide some support to ceratain locations in Yambio, including meals, non-food items, medical care and family reunification services. However, IDPs in each location indicate that further support is needed. 2 Location: Hai Malakia (Yambio Town) Namama (Yambio Centre, Yambio County, WEQ) NATURE OF MOVEMENT spontaneous DISPLACEMENT PERIOD June ongoing # IDPs 5,498 ind. (974 HHs) SETTING Host Community Armed conflict was the primary cause of displacement for IDPs tracked in Hai Malakia, Yambio Town. Interviews with key informants noted that the IDPs had fled on foot from Namama (also in Yambio Center Payam), and that travel routes were insecure. 3 Location: Timbiro ECS Cathedral Parish (Yambio Town) Saura, Makporo, Rimenze, Makpandu, Yapagu and Bazumburu (Yambio County, WEQ) DISPLACEMENT PERIOD 30 June ongoing # IDPs 502 ind. (88 HH) SETTING Host Community IDPs tracked in Timbiro ECS Cathedral Parish in Yambio Town indicated that they were displaced from multiple areas of Yambio County, including Saura, Makparo, Rimenze, Makpandu, Yapagu and Bazumburu. Key informant interviews noted that the IDPs fled their areas of habitual residence on foot as a result of armed conflict. Routes have become insecure. Red Cross has provided family reunification services. The need for additional support was also communicated, including food, shelter, healthcare services, non-food items, and sanitation facilities. (478 HHs) SETTING Host Community IDPs tracked in Ikpiro area of Yambio Town at the beginning of July, 2018 identified Ndavuro in Yambio Center Payam as their location of origin. Key informant interviews stated that IDPs had fled on foot along insecure routes from armed conflict. Public transport to/from the town has been limited as travel routes have become insecure. 5 Location: St. Mary Catholic Parish (Yambio Town) Saura, Makporo (Yambio County, WEQ) DISPLACEMENT PERIOD 10 June ongoing # IDPs 159 ind. (22 HHs) SETTING Site Armed conflict was the primary cause of displacement for IDPs displaced to St. Mary s Catholic Parish in Yambio Town, who fled on foot from other areas of Yambio Center Payam, including Saura and Makpara. The Catholic church and humanitarian organizations have provided some support to IDPs, including food, medical care, non-food items and education. However, key informant interviews noted that additional needs remained, including clothing, shelter, and other non-food items that they were unable to bring with them. 4 58% (n=159 ind.) 6 Location: Suk Siro (Yambio Town) Saura (Yambio Centre, Yambio County, WEQ) DISPLACEMENT PERIOD 14 June - 4 July 2018 # IDPs 4,775 ind. (846 HHs) SETTING Host Community Residents displaced from Saura, Yambio Center Payam, were tracked in the Suk Siro area of Yambio Town. Key informant interviews with the IDPs indicated that they had fled on foot as a result of armed conflict, and that the travel routes were not safe. (465 HHs) SETTING Host Community IDPs displaced from Makpara in Yambio Center Payam were tracked to Tiindoka, Yambio Town. Key informant interviews indicated that they had fled by foot from armed conflict affecting their area of habitual residence, and that travel routes were insecure.
