1 Lithuanian Maritime Safety Administration: the Most Important Activities
2 Administrative capacity building During 2007 Administration participated in the twining light project Strengthening of Administrative Capacity of the Lithuanian Maritime Safety Administration in application of European Union Maritime Safety Legislation. Budget EUR. Project duration 6 months, project was implemented with partner Swedish Maritime Administration. Results: - On job training was provided for three PSC officers (in Sweden); - Three seminars, conducted by Swedish experts; - Recommendations for improving legal, institutional and training regulatory framework for PSC activities in Lithuania elaborated. 2
3 New Website of LMSA From the beginning of 2008 new version of web page ( was introduced Lt were alocated for establishment of the new web page. New web page has more extensive english version, which includes topical issues for shipowners and seafarers. Comprehensive statistical information is available on the page. Navigational warnings and aids to navigation, which concerns Lithuanian sea responsibility area are publicized and uptated. 3

5 Structural changes On the 1st of January 2009 the amendments of the Law on Maritime Safety of the Republic of Lithuania will enter into force, according to which functions related to SAR and to response to the oil spills and HNS accidents at sea will be transferred to the MRCC of Lithuanian Navy. Consequently the MRCC as a part of Lithuanian Maritime Safety Administration will be liquidated. 5
6 Participation of Lithuania in Voluntary IMO Audit Scheme (VIMSAS) Participation in VIMSAS was approved by the Ministry of Transport and Communications special Action Plan was adopted by the order of the Minister. Action Plan includes several steps, which will lead to formal decision (probably of the Government) to participate in VIMSAS. 6
7 Year Statistics (FSC) Lithuania remains on the Grey List, although number of detentions of Lithuanian flagged ships in other ports decreases: 5 vessels in 2006 were detained and 4 vessels in During 2008 one Lithuanian flagged vessel was detained in the Region of Paris MoU.
