1 Dr. Oladiran Ola Bello Researcher and Project Coordinator at Fundación para las Relaciones Internacionales y el Diálogo Exterior (FRIDE), Madrid, Spain. Ola Bello is a researcher at FRIDE. Prior to joining FRIDE in 2010, he worked for several organisations including the United Nations, Management Systems International (Washington DC), Merchant International Group (London) and Arthur Andersen (later KPMG). Oladiran has a First Class B.Sc degree from the Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, and MPhil and PhD degrees in International Relations from the University of Cambridge. His work focuses on the fields of conflict and security analysis, development and governance. His research interests cover EU-Africa relations, international political economy, as well as state fragility, political transition and peace building. Some of Oladiran s recent policy publications include Are the Millennium Development Goals proving counter-productive? (FRIDE, August 2010) and EU recalibrations can help avert Sudan distaster (EurActiv, April 2010). Dr Bello presently coordinates FRIDE research project The Fragile State Trap: Challenges for West Africa, which looks at the effectiveness of European development action for promoting economic, security and political reform in that region. Among his book chapters and journal contributions are EU and the MDGs in a Global Strategic Perspective (in Economia Exterior, Winter 2010) and Africa Rising? in R. Youngs and A Martiningui (eds.), Challenges for European Foreign Policy in 2012, (Madrid: FRIDE, 2011). He is a frequent commentator in the print media, including EU Aid Revamp: Private Sector in, BRICs Out (New Europe, 2011), and also a regular guest analyst on electronic media including AlJazeera and TV Intereconomia (Spain). Dr Bello lectures on Development Cooperation and EU-Africa Relations at both B.Sc and Masters levels at the Universidad CEU San Pablo (Madrid), ESSCA (France) and Diplomatic Academy (Vienna).
