3 Meet the Judges! Graphic Design Jinne Hassan is a multi-emmy Award winning and accomplished professional Motion Graphics and Multi-Media Designer. She has worked in the broadcast industry for FOX television, Al Jazeera America, RT, The Pentagon Channel, NASA, STScI, The Voice of America and others. In 2014, Jinne won the PromaxBDA gold award for best on air typography. In 2017, shereceived 2 awards for outstanding promo and info graphics that went viral for VOA on 'Where ISIS Gets It's Funds'. Tim Oliver is a Department Chair for the Graphic Design Bachelors degree program at Full Sail University. He s been an illustrator for the US Army, a senior graphic designer for the Central Intelligence Agency, a Creative Director for the National Reconnaissance Office, and a freelance Creative Director for numerous design agencies in the Washington DC and Central Florida areas. Tim has been a professional freelancer specializing Illustration and Graphic Design for over 20 years with clients that include The Walt Disney Company, ESPN Outdoors, Universal Orlando, Avatar Holdings and other major Theme Parks. Tim currently resides in Orlando, Florida. Christine Abunassar is the Founder and CEO of ThinkB!G.LearnSmart, established as an elearning consulting and development firm in In 2007 the company expanded its services and facility as an Authorized Certification Training and Testing Center for Adobe, Apple, Articulate and Microsoft. ThinkB!G trains and consults prestigious government and commercial clients nationwide.

4 Photography Nate Pesce is an editorial/documentary photographer and cinematographer based in the Baltimore-Washington DC area. With a visual approach stemming from a film education in Los Angeles and self-taught photojournalism career, he produces images focused on everyday life in cultures and the human portrait. Recent cinematography work includes the feature documentary Decanted released on Netflix in 2017 and Agave: The Spirit of a Nation that premiered at SXSW 2018 in Austin TX. He has been published in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Baltimore Sun, AARP and others. David Duncan is a photojournalist who has covered everything from NASCAR and U.S. Marines Corps training and live fires exercises, to world events and national news that ran on the AP wire. More recently, he s been a Photography Manager in the Marketing Department at one of the largest Christian University in the County, Liberty University, while also teaching as an Adjunct Instructor at Randolph College where he taught Intro to digital video, multimedia storytelling and Intro to Photography. He currently runs David Duncan Photography, a commercial and sports photography business. Brad Horn has been a professional video producer for almost a decade, including a staff job at The Washington Post. He currently freelances for editorial, commercial, and nonprofit clients from Madison, Wisconsin. Strangely, little of it has made him as happy as what he started doing recently: teaching journalism to middle-schoolers.

5 Video Broadcasting John Gonzalez is a general assignment reporter with ABC7/WJLA-TV and News Channel 8. This native Washingtonian joined News Channel 8 in 1998 as a videotape editor and shortly made the jump to the role of photo-journalist. Now, John is a 4-time Emmy award winning general assignment reporter. During his time as a journalist, John has covered several high-profile stories including the funeral for President Ronald Reagan, the September 11th attack on the Pentagon and most recently the historic Papal visit. Amy Krueger is CEO and co-owner of ThunderShot Studios. After completing a degree in Radio, Television, and Film, she dove into production, working her way up from production assistant to editor and gaining a lot of field production experience along the way. At ThunderShot, she handles studio bookings and oversees all aspects of production from initial client meetings to final delivery - a job that covers concept development, scripting, coordinating shoots, and managing post-production. Lars Sandvik is President and co-owner of ThunderShot Studios. Starting out in the industry on national automotive advertising projects, Lars learned the value of working for different types of directors and experimented with a broad range of visual techniques. He is now a multiple Emmy Award-winning cinematographer and his expertise as a director of photography, lighting designer and jib operator keep him in demand with producers from HBO, Discovery Communications, Bravo, PBS, and the History Channel.

6 Print Journalism Michael Gose is an award-winning military journalist, twice named the Air Force s Journalist of the Year. He spent nearly 10 years with the Pacific Stars and Stripes in Tokyo, as a writer, editor and columnist. He taught journalism at the Defense Information School, Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind., from 1988 to 1991, retired from the Air Force, and returned to DINFOS to teach journalism. From 2002 to 2007 he was the academic director for the Public Affairs Leadership Department before heading the Public Affairs Department. He retired from government service in 2014, but spends many of his days teaching English and journalism to high school students in Gainesville, VA., where he and his wife Ronnie reside. Douglas Cannon handled media relations for the mobilization of more than 20,000 U.S. Army Reserve and National Guard troops across eight states. He helped re-engineer ( ) the Examination for Accreditation in Public Relations as a member of Universal Accreditation Board. Dr. Barbara Hines served as press secretary to U.S. Senator Ralph W. Yarborough (D-Tex), taught high school journalism and speech in the Prince George s County Public Schools, was assistant dean at the University Of Maryland College Of Journalism and was founding executive director of the Maryland Scholastic Press Advisers Association. A leader in journalism education, she is past president of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC), was named the Outstanding Woman in Journalism and Mass Communication and the Public Relations Society of America s Outstanding Educator. Sharon O Malley is a freelance writer, editor, consultant and trainer who taught at the Merrill College for 20 years. Her articles have been published in dozens of mainstream newspapers and magazines, including The Arizona Republic, USA Today, The Washington Times, Ladies Home Journal, Working Woman and American Demographics, and in trade publications like Builder, Eco Home and The HR Specialist. O Malley has ghost-written three books, including Where Winners Live: Earn More, Sell More, Achieve More Through Personal Accountability (Jossey Bass, 2013), and is working on a fourth. She lives in College Park with her husband, WTOP anchorman Shawn Anderson.

7 Print Journalism (continued) Mitchell (Mitch) Tropin is a native Washingtonian, growing up in Silver Spring, Md. Mitch worked for BNA for 37 years as a reporter and editor, covering the 70s energy crisis, agriculture, securities regulation, economics, Congress, the courts, and international taxation. The last beat gave him the chance to see much of Europe, North America and Latin America. Over the past 9 years, Mitch has taught journalism, mass communication and feature writing at the University of Baltimore, Loyola University Maryland, Morgan State University, Stevenson University, Trinity University, Towson University, and Washington Adventist University.
