1 U 1860 September 9, 2009 AAFA Re: Hyatt B Alford b Jan 1827 Wake County, NC and James Hyatt Alford b May Wake County, NC. Mistaken identity. Dear Fellow Cousins; I am a member and my member number is 1333 (Bobbie Alford Stuck). I found incorrect information regarding the above persons in the Alford Association Data Base for Marriage Records for North Carolina. The data base shows that James Hyatt Alford married one Joanna Simpson. I believe that this James Hyatt Alford was a cousin of Hyatt B Alford. James H Alford married Susan Watkins 6 Aug Later census data shows that James Hyatt & Susan Alford did not have any children. James Hyatt Alford is most likely the grandson of Isaac & Mary Alford of Franklin County, N. C. and son of Elias (Eli) & Elizabeth Alford of Wake County, N.C. My great great grandfather was Hyatt B Alford b circa 1827 Wake County. He married Joanna, also known as Hannah or Louanna Simpson (b 1830) on the 5 th of February, 1851 in Wake County. Hyatt B Alford was a crop farmer, served in the Civil War; and son of Gilbert Alford b 1780 Franklin County, d 1875, and Sallie (Sarah) Barham b 1790, d Attached are copies of two pages from the list of Wake County Marriage Bonds from Wake County, North Carolina. Page 5 indicates that Gilbert Alford married Sally Barham 5 January, Page 6 indicates that UHyatt Alford married Louanna SimpsonU 5 th Feb 1851; and James H Alford married Susan UBUatkins (I believe this to be a typing error and it should be UWUatkins) 6 Aug Attached is a copy of my great grandfather, Charles Alford s, death certificate. It lists his parents as Hyatt Alford and Hannah Simpson both from Wake County, N.C. I also provide the following confirming information: U1850 U S Census (Buffalo, Wake, North Carolina); Hyatt Alford, 23, farmer U S Census (Rolesville, Wake, North Carolina) lists the following in the same household; Hiatt B Alford, 34, male Joanna Alford, 30, female Wesley Alford, 9, male Mandy Alford, 4, male Simon Alford, 2, male
2 U1870 U S Census (Rolesville, Wake Forest, North Carolina) lists the following in the same household; Highat Alford, 48, Farmer Hannah Alford, 35 Wesley Alford, 19, male, Farm Laborer Konday Alford, 16, Female Simon Alford, 14, Male, Farm Laborer Susan Alford, 12, Female, Moses Alford, 12, Male, Farm Laborer Rebecca Alford, 6, Female *Note: Charles Alford, (youngest child of Hyatt & Johanna Alford) was born later that year September 8, U1880 U S Census (Little River, Wake, North Carolina) lists the following in the same household; Hiatt Alford, 55, Head of Household, Farmer Johanna Alford, 48, Wife Amandy Alford, 24, daughter Moses G Alford, 18, son Kilpatric Alford, 14, son Rebecca Alford, 12, daughter Charles Alford, 9, son U1900 U S Census (Rolesville, Wake Forest) lists the following in the same householdu: Hyat Alford, 74, Head of Household Jos Alford, 69, Wife Mandy Alford, 44, daughter Rebecca Alford, 32, daughter Charles Alford, 29, son Alice H Alford, 29, daughter-in-law Luke F Alford, 5, grandson Mattie H Alford, 3, granddaughter Minerva J Alford, 1, granddaughter *Note: This household includes my grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather (Luke, Charles and Hyatt Alford) Attached is a copy of the death certificate for Charles Alford: B Sep 8, D Jan 4, 1945; listed is his parents Hyatt Alford and Hannah Simpson..

U1870 U S Census (Raleigh Township, NC) lists the following in the same household U: Susan Alford, 35 James Alford, 33, Printer Francis Lansford, 19, cook U1900 U S Census list (Raleigh Township, NC) lists the following in same hosuehold: James Newsom, head of household James H Alford, 65, widowed, boarder, printer Further notes regarding Hyatt B. Alford and his father Gilbert Alford: Hyatt B Alford was enlisted in the 66 Regiment, North Carolina Infantry and his brother Simon Alford was enlisted in the 31 st Regiment, North Carolina Infantry during the Civil War. H B Alford enlistment is 20 August 1863, rank-private. The 66 th Infantry Regiment was organized at Kinston, North Carolina, in October, 1862, by consolidating the 8 th North Carolina Battalion Partisan Rangers and the 13 th North Carolina Infantry Battalion. Its members were from the counties of Orange, Nash, Franklin, Wayne, Lenoir Carteret, Jones, Uplin, and New Hanover. The unit was stationed at Wilmington, N.C. and in May, 1864, moved to Virginia. Attached to General J. G. Martin s and Kirkland s Brigade, the regiment fought at Cold Harbor, was placed in the trenches of Petersburg, and saw action at Bentonville. On April 26, 1865, it surrendered with the Army of Tennessee. Hyatt B. Alford s father, Gilbert Alford, served in the War of He was in Ensign Whitaker s Company, Artillery, North Carolina Militia and was inducted and discharged at the rank of private. In the 1870 U. S.
