President s Message CRRC Board for 2017 The elections were held during our November meeting. The club officers for 2017 are: President John Eppling Vice-President open Membership Secretary David Spielman Recording Secretary Dan Sullivan Treasurer David Marshall Chief Instructor Dick Williamson Newsletter Editor Adam Smith Webmaster Adam Smith Raffle Chairman David Spielman As you can see, there was not much turnover. We still need a Vice-President, who is the primary person for scheduling guest speakers for our monthly meetings. Until we find someone, the board is soliciting ideas for guest speakers for 2017. School Street Rules I attended the Acton Rec Commission meeting on Dec 6 th to discuss the proposed rules for drones and model aircraft in Acton and specifically the fields at School Street. A few months ago, I had reviewed the rules that Acton s lawyer had drafted based on the suggestions that I supplied them. One of the rules was the 400 feet ceiling limit, as well as few other areas that needed clarification. There were some minor changes made, but the 400 feet ceiling limit was not changed. The other major item of note (which I may have missed in my previous review of the rules that the town lawyer had drafted) is that drones and model airplanes are not permitted on any town property except where noted. School Street is currently the only town property where flying is permitted. There was another bit of interesting information to come out of the meeting, but I will save it for the December meeting. The rules have yet to be formally adopted by the town. Frozen Finger Fun Fly 2017 We are having our annual Frozen Finger Fun Fly on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at Davis Field. Time to figure out how to attach those skis. In my case, I have my FliteTest Sea Duck to fly off the snow. Let s hope that the weather will be unseasonably warm and calm! John Eppling 2
