1 Edited by Jack Steinhauser Denver R/C Club Meeting Minutes February 20, 2019 Regular Mee ng of Denver R/C Eagles was held on Wednesday February 20, 2019 at Colpar s Hobby Town, 1915 South Havana Street, Aurora, Colorado, Refreshments provided prior to start of mee ng. Mee ng called to order at 6:35 PM. Board Members present; Loren Anderson, President, Richard Lowrey, Vice President, Mike Eason, Secretary, Rodney Ge y, Treasurer, Joe Vedova, Safety Officer, Joe Apice, Director of Field Maintenance, Jack Steinhauser, Past President. A quorum is 9 members present. 23 members a ending, we have a quorum. Open Mee ng 6:35 P.M. George Mitsuoka accepted a 350QX which was in need of repair Welcome to Visitors and New Members Message from President Loren Anderson Gree ngs, Sky Rockit welcomed to club. Sky just started flying about a month ago. Sky moved back to Colorado to March Events be near family a er working 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, 03/20 Club Mee ng 37 years in the film industry in California. Approval of Minutes from Last Months Mee ng 1 st made by Paul Schlein and 2 nd made by Mike Swan. Mo on approved. Leadership Reports President-Loren Anderson Board Mee ng took place January 23, 2019 District 9 Mee ng was a ended by most of the officers of our Club. It was informa ve and well a ended by District 9 Clubs. We are now ge ng to spring. The snows are wet and heavy. I hope that your winter builds are proceeding as planned. Mine is coming along just fine. I hope to be able to share my progress at the April mee ng. We are now in our final push for renewal of club membership. By our bylaw s dues should be paid by the end of March. At that me memberships not paid will be put on Inac ve status. What that means is you will s ll receive s and newsle ers from the club un l January 1 st, A er that date your membership will be considered terminated and you will be removed from our membership list. If between the end of March and January 1 st, 1920 you decide to renew your membership, you will not be charged the runway fee. 4 DRCE Meeting Minutes (continued from page 1) FAA requirements changed February 25 in regards to placement of FAA#s on aircra. Numbers need to be placed on outside of aircra. No size requirement, but must be legible. First responders concerned about possible explosives being inside of aircra. DRCE has agreement with Centennial Airport which requires that all AMA members that use Suhaka Field must have FAA registra on and observe all rules and regula ons. DRCE is different than most AMA Clubs because of the agreement we have with the Airport. AMA does not police FAA regula ons. Gross viola on of this agreement could cause loss of flying privileges at Suhaka Field. DRCE requires all members to provide their FAA registra on numbers. Vice President-Richard Lowrey Richard has been working on ge ng FAA#s from membership. As of January 22 nd, 45 members have not yet provided their numbers. Scholarships for AMA Camp are available. Names must be submi ed by March 1 st. It was suggested that Nathan Laureano s name be submi ed. Secretary-Mike Eason Mike asked that a new event be added to the schedule. Since the Airshow has been moved to July it was suggested that a two day event be added in June at Airfield Elite. Camping for a limited number of units can be accommodated. All are welcome to come out just for a day. No open fires allowed. Barbeques are ok. It would be dry camping for those that choose to do so. Take out what you bring in. A chemical toilet is on site as well as a work shed with tools for repair of aircra. All types of aircra are welcome. The event is to help DRCE members become familiar with Airfield Elite, as discussions are taking place on possible unifica on of the two clubs. Treasurer-Rodney Ge y Joe Apice Presents his Harley Design Sig Biplane Last year at this me we had 82 members. Currently we have 69 members with 12 new members since January 1 st. Report on Club s account levels. Club is solvent. Mike Eason will look into submi ng request for funds for cost improvements to Suhaka Field. Director of Flight Training-John Dickens No change on mouse count and no scheduled training has taken place. Safety Officer-Joe Vedova Finger count remains the same. Care must be taken when charging Lipo Ba eries. Do not leave ba eries una ended while charging. Charge ba eries in a recommended container. Drill holes in metal storage containers to prevent explosion. When first se ng up airplanes remove prop from plane. This will help prevent prop injuries when there is a problem in set up. Director of Field Maintenance-Joe Apice Some a en on is needed on sealing cracks in runway. Some areas of runway have deep wide depressions. It may be necessary to saw cut and remove these areas. It was suggested that these areas be filed with post set, compacted and then filled with cold patch. It was also suggested that we add another Maintenance Day early in the year to work on repairs. 4

6 President s Letter (continued from page 1) FAA #. AMA does not mandate that the club require this, BUT our le er of agreement with Centennial Airport and the FAA at Centennial does require that we have the members FAA # on record. Please be advised that your FAA # is now required on the exterior of all planes and drones. We all agree that the purpose of the club is to facilitate the club in maintaining the field at Cherry Creek. With out your support we would not have a field to fly at. Should you have a financial hardship and can not afford your membership please let one of the officers of the club know and we will try to help in some way. There has been some concern about winter flying at the field. Some members are very eager to shovel the runways soon a er a snow and some would like to have a few days a er it snows to fly from the snow. I will add this topic to our next mee ng agenda, and we will have to come to some consensus of what we would like to do. Above all, we should strive to play fair at the field. We are in the process of trying to get one of our junior members to the AMA Academy for the week training class in Muncie, Indiana. There may be one opening remaining, so we are trying to fill it with one of our members. If you have any sugges ons or comments, please let me know.
