RENEW YOUR BLUE MAX & AMA MEMBERSHIPS!! AMA CHARTER 1040 GOLD LEADERSHIP CLUB THE PRESIDENT S TRACK by Steve Haas I want to thank you for electing me as your club president. I also want to thank Mike Melendy for all the hard work he has done this past year as our club President. Mike has left our club in great shape. It is that time of year when club dues are due and don t forget to renew your AMA membership also. You can bring your dues to the next meeting or mail them in to the club PO box. With the hobby shops closing, it is getting harder to get people to come to our meetings to put on a program for us. I would like to continue with what Mike started at the November meeting and put on demonstrations at the meetings. I plan on using our club members to put on the programs using what they are working on and any skills you would like to see. Please let us know what you would like to see and also what you would be willing to demonstrate at the meetings. This month Stitch Benavides has volunteered to do a show and tell on the flying wing he is building. He is taking an old control line scratch build and making it into an RC plane. Now that the flying season is done for most of us it is a good time to go over those models that you have been flying all year. Put the batteries in storage mode and go over the airframes to make sure they are ready for when the weather breaks. We are working on the details for the winter banquet and should have them in the next newsletter. We are planning on having it in March. ~ Steve President Steve Haas Vice President Howard Bifeld Editor Lynne Walters Board of Directors Bob Breckler Duane Lang Bradford Walters Gene Zerega Secretary Murry Randell Treasurer Bob Wisinski Webmaster Doug Bradbury COMMITTEES Banquet OPEN Field Marshal John Haderly Jim Kaufman Flying Proficiency Steve Haas Fun-Fly Jed Korthals Ground Crew Gene Zerega Matt Hauser Noise Shlomo Rimer Picnic Carl Will/Gene Derbick Bob Breckler Programs OPEN Safety Don Linder/Rich Blaha

January 2015 Volume 22 Issue 1 Page 6 Editor s Page By Lynne Walters THE ANSWER TO DECEMBER S NAME THAT PLANE The name of the plane is the Handley Page HP42. Bob Wisinski was the only person to guess it correctly and will get a free raffle ticket at the January meeting. One of the largest 4 engine biplanes ever built. Only 8 were ever made but their reputation for comfort, reliability, and safety, meant that only the outbreak of war curtailed their use. During their service life the fleet flew over 6.2 million miles. JANUARY S NAME THAT PLANE It was the first commercial aircraft to be equipped with passenger seatbelts. When production ceased in the early 1930 s, around 450 had been manufactured in some 60 different variants, including floats and ski versions. The aircraft was flown by many major airlines worldwide.
