Report from the Minister s Representative 4.1 Highlights from the Minister s Representative (full report attached) Over the 12 years of sitting on the Council having seen all the process of growth and maturity over that time has been a pleasure. The primary role of the Public Representative is related to the fundamental objectives outlined in the Architects Act - to service in the interest of the people. The Board of Directors and the Executive Director is who makes this association work. Almost everyone sitting around this table has served on the board 2 or 3 times if not more. It is the Northerns that make this board work. The demand on the gov t money and authority transferred to the communities has caused challenges for the association but you work forward. Appreciate serving on the board and wishing the association luck in its future initiatives. MOVED by Darrell V., SECONDED by Eric B., THAT the 2013-2014 Report of the Minister s Representative be accepted as presented, and that the report be forwarded to the Minister of Public Works & Services, Government of the Northwest Territories. 5. If you would like to help please contact the NWTAA Office. In November 2013 we had 6 out of 10 Intern Architects write the 4 sections of the Examination for Architects in Canada (ExAC). The results were, 5 Intern Architects successfully passed all 4 sections. Four more Intern Architects register with the NWTAA late last year, giving us a total of 14 NWTAA Intern Architects (8 NWT; 3 Nunavut; 3 Yukon). Darrell V. the NWTAA has pretty impressive ratio of Intern Architects to Registered Architects across the 3 Territories. 14 Interns to 24 Architects. Moe A-L. the BEFA process is a very good program for Foreign Architects to get accreditation to work in Canada. However, it is a challenge for the foreign architects to understand the difference between the BEFA Program and the Internship in Architecture Program. There needs to be presentations to Foreign Architects to explain what the difference is and to help them discover which root is the best for them. Moe is working with the CACB BEFA program coordinator in order to help future applicants.
