2017 HIGHLIGHTS: POLICE DEPARTMENT Full staffing. Successful BIA / OJS monitor site visit. Support from Senator Martin Heinrich to identify added funding for agency. CTAS and COPS Awards. NMDOT TSB Traffic Grant Awards. Narcan Deployment for all Police and Corrections Officers. Defibulators assigned to all Police and Corrections Units / Buildings. New Mexico TRAC s implementation. Cogent / Live Scan Implementation. Since 2015, Successful AMBER Alert and Missing Person Policy and Implementation. Successful Cross Commission with New Mexico State Police since 1993 Completed all advanced training requirements through NMLEA and BIA OJS.
2017 HIGHLIGHTS: CONSERVATION LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER 2014 Ramah Navajo Police were awarded Conservation Law Enforcement Officer Grant (CLEO). 2018 is last year for program. Program has been prosperous on face value as we were able to focus law enforcement attention on conservation, natural resources, and livestock matters. Brought about renewed collaboration with Navajo Nation Rangers and Ramah Navajo Police. Program also has had challenges: staffing challenge due to low pay due to limited grant; un-timely distribution of funds from BIA.
2017 HIGHLIGHTS: COMMUNICATIONS Fully staffed with certified communications specialists. 4 New Mexico State Certified Graduates from NMLEA. 3 more set for 2018. All advanced training completed to increase knowledge, skills, and abilities. New CAD / RMS implementation in process (late 2018 go live date) Our most important group from Ramah Navajo DPS. These are our first contacts with the public. RNPD Dispatch sets the professional tone! All were recognized with certificates of meritorious achievements for their commitment to policy and procedure and professionalism.
2017 HIGHLIGHTS: CORRECTIONS Fully implemented POST orders, policy, and procedure specific to Ramah Navajo Detention. Fully furnished and operational new detention facility. 100% compliance with full medical screening / clearance on every detainee. Narcan training and deployment Electronic Defibulator in facility and in transport vehicles. Restored moral with employees through competitive salary and COLA s. New uniforms, patches, equipment, badges, and through transitional leadership we have renewed the sense of employee importance as key stakeholders in Ramah Navajo. Weekly meetings and conversations with prosecutor.

Collaborative Partnership with prosecutor has renewed hope and trust from community that public safety and quality of life will and are improving for benefit of all. Successful Community Resource Meetings to identify issues and find solutions. Child Protection Team Collaboration. Intergenerational Community Advisory Panel Collaboration. Domestic Violence Response Team Concept. VAWA Children Grant Awarded to Fill Gaps in Community. RNPD Pinehill School police officer liaison program has begun.
TRENDS SUICIDE: - NO RECENT TREND OF SUICIDE IN RAMAH NAVAJO CHAPTER. - WE HAVE RESPONDED TO UNATTENDED DEATH CASES IN 2017 WHERE EXCESSIVE CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL IS CONTRIBUTING FACTOR CAUSING DEATH. THROUGH INVESTIGATION, STATEMENTS MADE FROM CLOSE FAMILY CITE DECEASED WAS DEPRESSED AND MADE COMMENTS OF NOT WANTING TO LIVE, HOWEVER, NO FORMAL SUICIDE NOTES LOCATED.
TRENDS CONTINUED: VIOLENCE: NOTICABLE TREND INCREASE IN VIOLENCE AGAINST PERSONS CALLS; SPECIFICALLY, STABBING INCIDENTS AND WEAPONS OF OPPORTUNITY: - TREND ARE HIGH INTOXICATION LEVELS OF BOTH SUSPECT AND VICTIM(S). - NARCOTICS DEALS GONE BAD. - FAMILY MEMBER VS. FAMILY MEMBER. - RETALIATION.
TRENDS CONTINUED: SOCIAL MEDIA: -2016 AND 2017 INCREASED USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS FOR NOT ONLY HARRASSMENT AND BULLYING, BUT ON LINE PREDATORS USING SOCIAL MEDIA TO ATTEMPT / ENGAGE IN UNLAWFUL SEXUAL ACTIVITIES WITH CHILDREN. - IDENTIFIED NEED FOR PARENTAL AND FAMILY EDUCATION ON WHAT ACTUALLY CAN OCCUR WHEN A SMART PHONE IS GIVEN TO A CHILD WITH NO RESTRICTIONS ON THE DEVICE.
