Table of Contents 1. What is FLCS? Rules and Expectations Useful Tips to Succeed at FLCS...8 2
What is FLCS? The Florida Crisis Simulation is an all crisis conference filled with innovative and unique committees and approaches. It was first recognized that there was a need for crisis style committees amongst the UF MUN members back in Hence, this conference was created and held for the first time on January 20th - 22nd, The initial response to the conference was very positive, prompting the UF MUN team to attempt to expand and promote the conference further. Beginning with 5 committees, the first year had over 100 people in attendance and will hopefully serve as motivation for the years to come. 3
Rules and & Expectations Delegate Code of Conduct We ask for your cooperation in maintaining order, both in and out of committee session, so that we may provide a professional, safe and educational experience for all delegates attending the conference. Additionally, delegates are expected to adhere to any and all applicable University of Florida policies and State of Florida laws. Dress Code The dress code for FLCS is western business attire unless otherwise noted by the committee director. Delegates and staff who do not maintain an appropriate standard of dress will be asked to change their clothing. Committee Attendance Committee attendance is expected of all delegates unless the delegation s head delegate has notified the Secretariat in advance. Committee attendance will be enforced by roll call vote at the beginning of each committee session, and any missing delegate s names will be reported to the FLCS Secretariat for possible disciplinary action. 4
Sexual Harassment and Discrimination All conference participants are expected to be respectful of others. Harassment in any form will not be tolerated, the nature of which includes, but is not limited to, discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, sex, age mental and physical disabilities, socio-economic status and sexual orientation. Reported incidents of harassment will be thoroughly investigated and the Secretariat reserves the right to take any action deemed necessary. Additional Inappropriate Behavior The Secretariat reserves their right to discipline or expel delegates from the Conference for inappropriate behavior, including, but not limited to, the use of foul language, suggestive remarks and obscene body language. The FLCS Staff reserves the right to read all notes passed during committee sessions. Alcohol and Drug Use During committee session, FLCS has a zero tolerance policy towards intoxication. Any delegate or staffer caught under the influence will be expelled from committee. Moreover, delegates, staff and all other conference participants are expected to abide by local, state and federal laws. This includes, but is not limited to law regarding possession, trafficking and use of illegal drugs and laws regarding the purchase and possession of alcohol. The legal drinking age in Florida is 21 years of age. Delegates found engaging in illegal activities or violating these 5
regulations may be expelled from the Conference and/ or the University of Florida campus, and may be held criminally liable. Smoking Smoking is not permitted on the University of Florida campus at any time. Damages Individuals will be held responsible for vandalism or damage that occurs on the University of Florida campus or in their respective lodgings. Neither FLCS nor its agents will accept any responsibility for damages inflicted by delegates. Please note that neither FLCS nor UF MUN is responsible for any loss, theft or damage to personal items. Solicitation Solicitation for any events by individuals other than the conference staff will not be tolerated without the consent of the FLCS Secretariat. Technology Use The use of cellular phones, laptop computers, and other data-enabled devices is strictly prohibited during all FLCS committee sessions, unless stated otherwise by your given director. 6
Photography and Use of Conference Photographs At FLCS, staff photographers will be present for portions of each committee session to document the conference. With that being said, if any delegate wishes that their picture not appear on any conference materials or websites, he or she must inform the Secretary General. 7
Useful Tips to Succeed at FLCS When preparing for a conference, delegates may wonder what they can do to stand out. Although every committee is different, here are a couple of tips delegates should be mindful of if they wish to succeed at the 2017 Florida Crisis Simulation. 1 Read your background guide and do research beyond what is included in your background guide. 2 Stay true to your character. 4 Come to committee prepared with a detailed crisis plan. 5 Interact with the Crisis Room and send thorough crisis notes. 5 Adhere to the previously stated rules and expectations. 6 Contribute to active and substantial debate. 8
