The Week Ahead 12 18 June 2017 Plenary session and committee meetings in Strasbourg Plenary Climate Change. U.S. President Donald Trump s decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement on climate change will be discussed with the Council and the Commission and with Marshall Islands President Hilda Heine. Parliament will vote on legislation to implement its 2030 CO2 emissions-reduction targets the same day, immediately after a formal address by Côte d Ivoire President. Alassane Ouattara, who will also speak about the effects of climate change. (Wednesday) Energy labelling. MEPs will also take a final vote on new energy labels for household appliances, which will use A to G ratings to indicate energy consumption, rather than the current A+/A++/A+++. (Debate and vote on Tuesday) 30 years of Erasmus. Parliament will celebrate the Erasmus+ programme, which has helped more than nine million people to study, work, or volunteer abroad over the last 30 years, with the participation of 33 current and former Erasmus students. (Tuesday) Upcoming European Summit. MEPs will give their input ahead of the 22-23 June European Council, which will deal with the Brexit negotiations, including the procedure for relocating EU agencies which are now in the UK. Migration, security and defence will also be on the agenda in a debate with Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and the Maltese Presidency of the Council. (Wednesday) Gender gap in pensions. MEPs will outline a number of proposals to tackle the gender gap in pensions, which stood at 39.4 % in 2014 in the EU and has increased in half of the Member States over the past five years. (Debate on Monday and vote on Wednesday) Western Balkans: 2016 progress reports. Parliament holds its annual review of the reform efforts made by Serbia and Kosovo on their way to EU membership on Tuesday and votes on two separate resolutions and one on the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia on Wednesday. Glyphosate. The EU Commission will be pressed to say whether it will investigate allegations of undue influence from Monsanto over the EU approval of the herbicide substance glyphosate. An oral question to the Commission says that correspondence from the company, which was recently disclosed, sheds doubt on the credibility of a number of Monsanto-sponsored studies. (Tuesday) Sharing economy and the role of online platforms. The challenges of the collaborative or sharing economy, including fair competition, workers rights and tax compliance, and the role of online platforms in fighting the spread of fake news, are addressed in two separate, non-binding resolutions. (Debates on Wednesday and votes on Thursday) Committees Taxation/multinationals. Big multinationals doing business in the EU will need to publish information on where they make profits and how much tax they pay on a country-by- EN Press Service Directorate General for Communication Director General - Spokesperson: Jaume DUCH GUILLOT Reference No:20170606APR76702 Press switchboard number (32-2) 28 33000 1/18

country basis, according to a draft law to be voted on by the Economic and Legal Affairs committees. (Monday) Reform of the EU asylum system. A draft law to harmonise standards for determining whether a person is in need of international protection, and defining the rights they should enjoy, will be put to a vote in the Civil Liberties Committee. The text sets, among other things, the length of residence permits granted to refugees. (Thursday) President's diary. EP President Antonio Tajani will chair the celebratory ceremony for the 30th anniversary of the Erasmus+ program in the plenary chamber on Tuesday. He will have a meeting with Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara on Wednesday. Pre-session press briefing. The EP Press Service will hold a press briefing at 16.30 on Monday.
